Great with ION turntable
I bought this for my Dad as a father's day present so he can use headphones with his ION Vinyl turntable. Just connect a set of standard red/white RCA cable's from the record player into this little amp and plug into the mains, connect some decent headpones into either the 3.5 or 6.35mm outputs turn everthing on and listen :)The sound is really good and the tone adjuster is a nice bonus, the volume is for such a value orientated amp rediculas and will blow your ears off at full blast even with a big hefty set of Sennheiser's plugged into it's 6.35mm out. Another great set of features this amp has, is RCA passthrough allowing you to simply connect a second set of rca's back out to your hi-fi and it sends out a completely un-molested signal, the other useful feature is you can use it like a pre-amp be connecting a jack-jack or jack to rca lead from either of the 2 headpone outs. My Dad has tried this and prefers to use it as a pre amp because it complete re-vitalises the sound going into his small hi-fi. All in all a great little device for any vinyl player and a great price too.

Excellent value
Not experienced any issues that other reviewers have experienced, could be that the manufacturer have already sorted them. What I can say is that it's an excellent headphone amp that will drive any headphones large or small, it seems to have very good frequency response as nothing is lost and does exactly what an amplifier should do, it makes the incoming signal a lot bigger without changing it. The tone control does work on my model but is pointless as with any tone control I've experienced leave it full up and the sound is as it comes in, turn it down and the sound becomes muffled. But as an amp it does a good job. Only con is it could do with an on/off switch.

Not Impressed
I bought this to use as a booster for TV line out to provide an amplified headphone output for a person with mild hearing difficulties. The unit did not boost the volume at all when compared to listening to the TV without headphones & at the higher volume there was a notable buzz, presumably from the power supply. The unit was tried with 3 different sets of headphones with no noticeable difference. This may have been a faulty unit but not fit for purpose. Returned same day.

How can anyone say this unit is any good ?
I am amazed that some have said this unit is good in this review thread. The volume gain is far to low to be of any use to me.Maybe that's why it doesn't state in the item description the gain in db of this amp or on the box it came in, the specs are basic too say the least and the overall specs are quite low.A computer PCI sound card costs less than this and sounds so much better and usually has an optical input/output as well. Also I had sound dropouts and pops on my unit when listening to a variety of sources with high quality low loss RCA cables !I am sending it back for a refund, my advice is don't waste your money on this rubbish.

Volume and not tone
First point - the amp comes with a two-pin euro mains connector and this wouldn't fit into the supplied adaptor. One e-mail to the suppliers and another adapter was quickly sent - good customer service.I currently have a small-screen TV in the study. Sound was poor and so I've added Logitech LS11 speakers, connected via a headphone jack to the TV. Sound quality is now much better but I still needed to brighten the sound if possible and also to connect headphones at the same time. I bought this amp so that I can adjust the tone and don't need to constantly connect/disconnect the headphones. Two points - no input or output phono cables are supplied and the output from the phono cable by-passes the controls on the amp, meaning that sound from this output cannot be adjusted from the amp. The controls only affect the headphone sockets - probably as intended.I had already purchased a Belkin headphone splitter cable (good quality) and so I connected the TV to the amp via a jack to phono lead, disconnected the phono output lead from the amp and connected the Belkin cable to the headphone socket, happily driving both the speakers and the headphones. On the amp, the volume control controls both the speaker and headphone sound volume but the tone control doesn't seem to be very effective. At its Max setting, the sound is no brighter than when speakers or headphones are connected directly to the TV. Turning the tone control anti-clockwise very soon causes the sound to become muddy and unclear.Unfortunately the suppliers do not provide information on the frequencies affected by the tone controls.Summary - good for controlling output volumes but not the tone.Addition - Wrote to Conrad over a week ago to find out the frequencies affected by the tone control - no response. I therefore query my initial positive comment about customer service.

Good value
Good solid headphone amplifier and great sound quality. There are more expensive amps on the market but this matches them for sound and build, recommended.

Remove the Tone Control and this is Excellent
First of all, this product is probably not the best headphone amp in the world, but it only cost £30 and therefore is definitely worthy of a 5 star rating. One thing to note though, is that it comes with a rather useless tone control. As another review said, it is worth opening the unit up and de-soldering the tone control as is does improve the sound quality. It's a bit of a pain to have to do this, but for the price you can't go wrong. I use this unit every day to amplify the line-out on my ipod dock for use with headphones at work.
