Q: is this a good replacement for a bt homehub 5 and is ut easy to set up ?

It Is a a good replacement however it is not plug and play when using with BT infinity.You will need to login to the router intructions come with router on how to do this.Then you have to enter username being bthomehub@btbroadband.comIf you do not it will show connected but no interent access

If you are able to switch the hub to modem only mode then you can run this router from that, otherwise this would not replace the homehub

No it doesn't. I have a virgin media superhub in modem mode plugged into one of these as my main router, works great and my wifi devices have a much stronger signal as compared to when I was just using the virgin superhub.

Q: On EE fiber will this work without a modem

No. This is not a modem, it is just a router. You will need to plug one of the LAN ports from the modem your ISP (EE) provides you into the WAN port on this device. Providing your modem works well this will be a good setup.
