Dispute with company resolved.
These lights are really pretty and stay alight for a long time after dark. I bought them last January and they worked really well until about November. When they stopped coming on, I assumed there was not enough daylight to charge them. However, by March I thought they should be lighting up again, but they weren't. Charging them via USB and changing the battery made no difference. When I contacted Powerbee explaining that they had stopped working within 9 months, they initially said that as the guarantee period had elapsed 'their systems would not allow them to replace them'. However, I reiterated my point that they had in fact stopped working in less than a year they asked me to send them back. I took a chance on this as they did not promise to replace them (they said their engineers would check them) and I paid the postage myself. However, I am delighted to say that they sent a replacement set without any further dispute.

Stars Indeed...
Eighteen months ago I didn't own a single rechargeable battery, battery charger or solar powered light. Then I moved into a basement flat which whilst wonderful was like no home I'd ever lived in in terms of both the paralysing effect of power cuts (so dark that you could not see your hand five inches in front of your face; and that's in day time!) and their frequency. It soon became obvious that battery powered lighting was needed and the batteries needed to be rechargeable if the set up was to be in any way, shape, or form resolved. I set about giving myself a crash course in rechargeable batteries and chargers which seemed to progress naturally into solar power and related issues. Keen to get started I rushed out to acquire solar items but soon became aware that the quality of components utilised in nearly all of the solar powered items that I purchased was so low as to render the items virtually useless in a matter of weeks. It is possible to extend both the life of the rechargeable battery and the number of hours light obtained per charge by manually deep conditioning/trickle charging the batteries supplied with the solar light. To be able to do this, however, you need access to the battery and the battery needs to be of a standard type (AA, AAA, C type, etc).On a more tangible level, the materials used to construct the Powerbees are nothing short of amazing at this price point. The transparent star shaped lamp shades are made from an ultra durable silicone/rubber type substance with a degree of `flex' built in so they wont crack, chip or fracture over time. The power connections are made courtesy of good quality DIN plugs usually reserved for high end or professional installations. The solar panel itself is of sturdy construction with all connections/switches hidden and protected beneath a sturdy (and waterproof) flap. When Powerbee say superbright, they mean superbright; the intensity and quality of light emitted from each bulb is a revelation to anyone who has been used to lesser (though not necessarily cheaper) alternatives. The light is almost of a daylight type quality, by comparison, all other solar rechargeable (non Powerbee) lamps in my garden look somewhat yellow. If you have a prolonged period of dull weather and have not yet got around to finding the optimal position for the solar panel (which in my case remains plonked in the middle of a substantial lavender bush) it is a fantastic feature that enables you to unplug the solar panel and pop it indoors for a quick mains charge ready for the all important garden party that evening. In short, this is a very good set of lights. That they are solar powered and that the solar power part of the installation has been executed so very well makes them the bargain of the century. I've not tallied up the cost and time savings that would have been made if I had come across this item a long time ago. If this review can save you just a little of the same then I reckon I've done my job here. Now go and enjoy the lights!

great, what i have been looking for.
Have been fed up in the pastbuying outside lights that last until just after christmas and need plugging in indoors, limiting where i can use them. Just moved to new flat with lovely shared garden, wanted the dark end cheered up. Lights arrived day after i got email confirming dispatch (i live on a Scottish Island). Unpacked, easy instructions, Charged them for a while then got them outdoors, I would have prefered a metal spike, but plastic one perfectly adequate. Admit I did not expect them to be as bright as mains lights, how wrong could i be! Set them at static just now, very bright, spoke to my neighbout next day and he asked where the power lead was so he could avoid it when cutting the grass! He was amazed they were solar as they were so bright.Everything going ok at moment, kept the box and written the date on so i know when i got lights in the past i have lost receipt/binned box and been unable to take back (not that i expect to). They are about £10 cheaper than plug in ones that lasted less than a year, I don't have to open a window and can put them away from the house. Will be ordering another set so the tree at the front can be lit at Christmas, but i might go mad and get coloured ones!

Worth the money
I bought these for camping at a festival as they light up pretty much All night if they have had a good charge, and they were an ideal night light in and around the tent when on 'constant'mode as I bought another set but with no stars on which were just as good! (It meant we didn't have to fumble for the torch in the middle of the night!)I'm planning on putting them in the garden now for Christmas as they have some lovely twinkling modes and have a decent shine. They are far better than any other solar lights I've had. I've spent more money on lights in the past that only lasted a few weeks. I've not used them out in the frost or snow yet but if i position them well I can't see there being a problem in doing so but that's only my opinion . I would have no hesitation buying these again or from power bee as it was fast delivery. Noticed the prices going up though and that would be my only problem.

Stopped working after 12 months
Well, I placed these along a fence exactly a year ago and they have not moved from there since. How effective they are really depends on how well you place the solar panel as subtle changes can make all the difference. Ultimately I have achieved some really pleasing rsults for the past 12 months and managed to get a light show even during the darkest days, admittedly not through the night as you'd get through summer. However, here's the rub about a week ago exactly half of the lights stopped working, exactly half way along the fence. One half worked, the other....nothing. I haven't ddone anything, haven't moved them and they haven't moved....but darkness. Can only think it's water ingress or something however whether potentially 12months use is worth it for the price is another matter. Some people get lesss according to some reviews. Real shame because these look great, when they work.
