Review: ... bought this AA heavy duty tow pole as I hate using rope - I bought this AA heavy duty tow pole as I hate using rope. When it arrived I was surprised by its weight. On opening the box, I saw that the storage bag it came in had a hole at one end so was worried that small parts might have escaped, however the parts are all secured with chains to the poles themselves. On putting it together for a practise, I found that the retaining pins to be very light and made of too thin a metal and I do not have faith in them actually staying in. I will be buying thicker ones independently as these look like they could fall out. The holes they go into are much larger than the pin so will accept a heavier version. The poles are bright red and are easy to put together. The 'On Tow' flag in the middle of the pole is a nice little touch. Coincidentally, on 14/01 I needed to tow my son’s car off a dual carriageway after the clutch failed. On setting about putting together the pole, I found it difficult to apply the whole pole to the towing eyes with it ready made. I had to separate the three parts, then attached each towing eye individually to each car then attach the middle section with a small amount of manoeuvring. Once built up it looked good. I instructed my 19yr old about the technique he would be experiencing which included the sound of the knocking metal. I shook the bar to simulate the noise to stop him worrying. At this point I realised that an improvement could be made by adding a hard rubber grommet that could be slid over the hook after attachment that would quieten the sound dramatically I will be going to a DIY shop looking for an ideal part. Once underway the towing was easy and well controlled. At times I had to slow or pull away from junctions, where the towing eyes banged against the towing hooks and made a horrific banging sound, I had to keep checking that he was still there. Once home, the towing bar was undamaged. I was going to buy one of the cheaper bars off EBay but I am glad I chose this one. It comes in a bright red bag that will sit in any boot, and as it only cost me £21:78. I have already saved over 3-4 times its value over hiring a breakdown vehicle to take the car home. I would highly recommend this bar
Review: Overall decent. - Great item, had one years ago that got bent so had to get a replacement, this one is slightly better insofar as it has the spring loaded center piece which absorbs some of the braking issues. Being towed with one of these poles is an experience in itself, it seems very wrong to be so close to the car in front and all of your instincts will tell you to brake, but get past this and you should be fine. The pole itself is of a decent quality, the bag is quite handy to as is has the words “ON TOW” printed on it which in our situation we were able to use the handle to hook over the rear wiper to display. The only thing I think would definitely benefit from improvement would be the split pins that hold the Clevis pins into the pole. Overall good value for money and if used correctly should last.

**Q: can i Use it on the motorway?**
A: Yes, but only to remove broken down vehicle from the place of brake down to the nearest exit. You are not allowed to tow a vehicle to a motorway.

**Q: how do you connect to a tow hitch?**
A: If you mean a tow ball hitch you can’t. It’s made to conecters via the towing eyes which screw into the rear conection point and the same but on the front bombper, if it’s an older car it might have permanent towing point under the bumpers which it would still clip onto

**Q: The weight for this tow rope is published at 150gram. it is not.  it is 1050gram**
A: That probably is the right weight for the rope it,s self , the rope is not heavy but there are hooks on there also.didn't look at the weight , but it is strong enough to pull a car because i have used it for that.

**Q: might be a stupid question.....but do you need someone in the vehicle being towed to use this?**
A: Yes it's not the same as a rescue van towing system, need a person in the car being towed to steer/break,just as you would with a tow rope. This does bend very easily aswell, my bar bent on the first use ☹️

Does the job. Scary for the person in the towed car as you're really close to the towing car. If the towing eyes on the cars are offset (one left, one right) it's diagonal, closer still, or the towed car is offset to the towing car.
