Expensive IEMs at a bargain price
Could any Old Testament prophet have ever prophesied about such a quality IEM at an incredble bargain? I am a fan of the Harman curve. Slightly lifted bass and treble with great midrange representation. Great details, decent soundstage (nothing like open-back headphones), bass that digs DEEP without becoming bloated or bloomy.Bass:These really dig down deep into your soul and resonate, shaking you to the core. But it does not interfere with the mids. From sub-bass to mid-bass, it is very controlled, tight, and punchy. When called for it, the bass can hit like a sledgehammer of the musical gods or it can be subtle and blend perfectly well. For bassheads coming from Beats or SkullCandy that are overpowering of the mids and highs, these are excellent for you to hear what musical bass sounds. Gobs of punch, rumble and growl in the right quantities. Most of all bass QUALITY. I have listened to TobyMac, Lauren Daigle, Devildriver, Pantera and more with these. The bass is very fast and responsive. Listen to "Dead to Rights" by Devildriver. The opening drums, bass guitar and both guitars playing quick triplets. The Mele did not stumble or fall behind. This song is difficult for most cheaply tuned headphones/earphones struggle with to reproduce perfectly. Switching to TobyMac and the bass punches you in the head and rumbles with the right amount of resonance. As far as I can tell, These are dipping into the sub-20 hz range.Mids:No hint of being recessed. Even though the graphs will show they are slightly lower than the bass and treble. The mids are very smooth and detailed. Vocals sounds lively, true-to-life and natural. guitars, string instruments, woodwind and all other intruments are well represented. They all have their own place in space and in the mix. You can pick out each vocalist and instrument without struggling to make them out. SWEET is the only way to describe this.Highs:There is plenty to love in the highs. Snare hits are crisp and clear. The 10 kHz rolloff prevents things from becoming noisy, piercing or sibilant. BTW, no hint of sibilance. Even after 6+ hours of listening in the first day, I never felt any fatigue or strain. In "Cemetery Gates" by Pantera, there is a moment after 6 minutes where Phil Anselmo is singing "gates" progressively higher and Dimebag Darrel matches even higher with his signature pinch harmonic squeal. Faithfully reproduced. I would have liked maybe an extra 1db or so to bring the guitar squeal to the threshold of piercing. So, the highs were ever so slightly pulled back in a pleasing way. Not too much so to cause a "veiled" tone like most Sennheisers do. Heck, maybe Sennheiser need to consult with BGGAR. At least AKG figured it out. These are as energetic as the Energizer bunny on meth. If you want music to move you; make you tap your toes, bang your head, feel like you are an honorary member of every artist/band you listen to...here it is! Hesitate and debate no longer. As an audio enthusiast, I highly recommend the Mele IEMs in a heartbeat. Are these the most technical, detailed, widest soundstage or best of all out there....no. But my best competitor against this is my Hifiman Ananda at $700. The Ananda is wider, more detailed and better refined. But those are 14x the cost of these. A closer comparison is my beloved AKG N700NC m2. I feel these 2 share a similar tuning. Even those are at least double the price of the Mele. But I love the fun tuning of the Harman-esque curve of the Mele with excellent detail retrieval, non-fatiguing tone and authoritative bass. Some things the AKG does a little better while Mele does other things a little better. Very little, mind you. I would have to give detail retrieval to the Mele overall.Sources:I tested between my Topping DX3 Pro+ desktop dac/amp and a Hiby R6 2020. I find the Mele to be a bit on the warmer side. Meanwhile, the R6 2020 is a slightly brighter, giving a very slightly more detailed tuning. So, yes, these scale very well depending on your source. I cannot say how it sounds from a phone as I don't have a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. However, the Sound Blaster output of my Alienware 17 R3 sounded just as well as my amp and DAP.Who are these for? Who will benefit from the Mele?EVERYONE!!! Regardless of your musical preferences, these compliment all genres and styles with ease. Stevie Ray Vaughan? Check! Billie Eilish? Check! Metal of all kinds (Devildriver, Megadeth, Impending Doom)? Heck YEAH! Don't blame me if these have you banging your head so much that you buy stock in Excedrin. Blues, rap, rock/metal, hip hop, Contemporary Christian/worship, orchestral composures and everything you can throw at it. I enjoy them all! Do you want to use these for movies, shows, YouTube, gaming? Absolutely! I played PS2 and PC games with a giant grin on my face. Racing & shooters sound lifelike. Gunshots have an authoritative bass response in a natural way. Car engines and exhaust tones are like I'm stomping the go pedal of my Trans Am. Placement of sounds in space are easy to pinpoint. Regardless of your use, I am sure anyone will find these to be one of their favorites.Using a 4.4mm balanced cable opens everything up and smooths out the sound overall in a great way.
