The flick/fold out probe means it is easy to use at all angles reliably. I've never had to recalibrate but it seems simple to do. I've generally given some away to people and bought new, so do last a long time. I bought this as a spare for work, but my current one is at least 6 years old and still working great. It would be nice if it had a clip to hold it to the side of a pan maybe but then for the price I can't really complain. It is a basic tool in the kitchen which will be replaced with the exact same one when it dies. Accuracy and speed are perfect. I would caution people not to lift food with the probe. It is tempting to take the temperature of a chicken leg, then flip it with the pen, but I recommend you do not. The joint of the pen where the probe is attached to the body of the device is fragile. Mine cracked after a few years. The device still functions but I have to press the sides down as the display goes off if I do not.
