In the past I have had bad experiences with printers; I have tried a few HP and Epson.The family tends to need to print intermittently; I have found that with other printers they clog-up if left unused. This Canon does not appear to suffer from this problem. I'm not especially techie and have a layman's grasp of terminology. However, I was really pleased to be able to get it all up and running first time for my laptop AND phone without any issues at all.There's a step-by-step diagram sheet and I followed that for the hardware set up. It basically involved taking off orange stickers and plastic bits and plugging the printer in. The CD it's supplied with has an easy walkthrough for the software and getting connected to wifi. I used the WPS button on my router and that was that!Connecting to the phone was easy too, I just downloaded a free app and it automatically found the printer.The print quality isn't bad at all for home office use. I printed a photo from my phone and made the mistake of not selecting the right size paper in the printer (A4 copy paper) but second time it worked great. The printer and scanner functions are also straightforward. It's fairly quiet in action too.Overall, I'm really pleased for the price. There is no screen to show what you are doing. The paper tray is 3/4 outside the machine which makes it untidy but it is cheap and the printing of paper documents is OK. I just wish the marketing of printers was different. I can't justify spending any more money on a printer as they only seem to last about a year then a fault code comes up and although the thing is basically OK you are locked out. I am not a techie person myself but I followed the instructions and I was surprised how fast and easy it was to set up after having read the previous reviews. I have printed wirelessly from my laptop, from an iPad and a Mac with no problems at all. I love this printer as I am no longer put off printing out forms, articles etc as connecting all the cables was such a hassle before and I hated having to manually turn over the pages to print on both sides. No matter what I do the printer will only print word documents. When I try to print PDFS or any other file types, the job goes through and it sounds as though it's printing, but all that comes out is a blank page. Have looked online and emailed support with this issue but had no luck - just been told to clean the printer head and check the nozzle pattern print, which are both fine. Printing word documents = great.
