Its well made and the surfaces you are checking with are precision machined. I checked mine against a L.S. Starrett 24 inch straight edge and it looks excellent which is expected. One note worth mentioning is this is crafted from an Aluminum extrusion. It is a quality material and most likely 6061 aircraft Aluminum that is heat treated for strength and hardness. However, this material is malleable and will dent or ding if it receives sufficient impact with a like hardness or harder metal (your frets are harder). It's important to treat this gauge as you would any other precision measuring instrument. That said, every other one of these I've seen that is affordable, is also made from Aluminum.
