Review: Lovely whistle, great customer service - Ordered on Monday, and delivery was to the next Monday. Happy with that. It actually came on Wednesday morning! Great service from One to One music. Highly recommend them. Whistle is great: lovely tone and tuneable. Tony Dixon makes great instruments (I also have a TD low D whistle which is super). Perhaps a bit quiet for group playing (not an issue if mixed up though) but absolutely super for playing in the house but, make no mistake, this is not just a “practice” instrument! Recommend most highly.
Review: Hits all the right notes! - Like other reviewers I bought the Tony Dixon whistle having viewed the 'CutiePie' review on Youtube. I play mostly fretted instruments: guitar, mandolin, banjo, etc. so was looking for an instrument with sustain for playing slow airs, waltzes, and so on. I had tried to learn whistle many years ago which may help to explain why the instrument came very naturally to me (one tune seemed to pop out ready formed - I suspected it was an O'Carolan tune and sure enough when I checked in an old book of session tunes it was 'Fanny Power'!) First of all the whistle was bang in tune out of the box. It is tuneable but my one didn't need any tweaking (a very handy option, though, when playing with other musicians). Love the tone - mellow and flutey. Some reviewers have mentioned a slight lack of volume and while this may be an issue when playing in a noisy session I certainly wasn't aware of it when playing at home. I found it very easy to play. Even as a novice I had no problem with octave changes, fingerings or hole coverage (all things which ARE a problem on my recently acquired low D whistle!) 'Noisy session' caveats aside, this is a lovely whistle which should appeal to whistlers of all standards - just ask CutiePie!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How easy is the tuneable slide to use? (Have also emailed seller)**
A: Very easy; it slides in and out. As with all tuneable whistles, it is suggested you lubricate the slider part regularly (I do mine monthly whether or not I am playing them.  Any synthetic grease will do.

**Q: Why does the photo of the whistle look different to the one on the Dixon's website?**
A: Yes

**Q: how do you tune whistles**
A: Provided the whistle has a tuning slide - often made of brass or some other metal or alloy - you blow with fingers covering all holes to sound a d note with both halves of the whistle pressed together. This is the lowest note on a d whistle. You have to blow softly. Now compare this - if you have a good ear with the d above middle c on a piano. If the d on the whistle is higher then pull the two halves of the whistle apart - just a little - and carry on making small adjustments until the d’s match. If you don’t have a good ear then use an electronic tuner with a microphone - you can buy iPhone and android apps or even buy a complete tuner system such as those made by Korg & others. The tuner should be chromatic - able to recognise any note. Make sure whatever you buy has a microphone - clip on guitar tuners are really not suitable. Now you can tune to any note you want - see the note diagram that comes with your whistle which shows which holes to cover for particular notes. You probably will never get a perfect match for all whistle notes at the same time - so aim for about 10 cents away from the note. The tuner documentation should explain this. If the whistle doesn’t have a tuning slide you can’t tune it. Environmental conditions will affect the actual notes blown, but they will be pretty close to the scale of d in most circumstances

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accurate and Easy to Play

I bought this after seeking an upgrade to my generation whistles. It is the first mid-tier whistle I've owned and its very nice to play and is quite nicely intonated. The tone, of course, does not compare to metal or wood but it is surprisingly pleasing and mellow. It makes for a useful whistle for intermediate learners as it isn't too loud. I would totally recommend it for this price range and I'm happy with the purchase.
