Safety 1st Alpha Elite 65 Convertible Car Seat, Rachel

I love it but...Having older children near 10, we used an Alpha Omega back when they were infants and they were big, heavy & long seats then & they still are. However, because it will last them through being out of a car seat it's no surprise. We bought an Alpha Elite for our 8 month old and a Graco Size4Me 65 at the same time. Having seen neither in person but doing comparisons (including measurements), I knew the Alpha was likely going to be much bigger and my husband could use it in his crew cab. (It is a great fit, for the record and the Size4Me is a great fit in my Explorer but it will not become a booster so there's a trade off). The seat is not disappointing, it's just fairly big and heavy (though not as much as some of the others!). It's not one to be switching from vehicle to vehicle on a normal basis for most people. It's rated for 5+ lbs and the additional hip and head supports seem like they would cradle a tiny infant well (the older ones there was no extra cushioning, a newborn/small infant just swam in them). We've transitioned each of our children in to this from an infant seat at their max weight limits around 22 lbs. The seat is easy to install and adjust. The seat padding is very adequate. It's wide and long, I cannot imagine it would fit in to a smaller vehicle rear facing very easily. It does not fit well in my older Ford explorer without the front seats being pushed way up and our 2 older children would loose a lot of seat room to the sides of it. It's easy to adjust height and recline is a simple pull of the lever, it's easy to install with a lap belt. Overall I like it very much, it's just not for a vehicle that isn't roomy in either the rear facing position or forward and in my personal opinion, you can have have the safest car seat there is but unless it fits well in your vehicle, it's not very safe for the car seat user or anyone else. We were happy with the style and brand 11 years ago and we're happy with it now.

Amazing seat! Our three year old fits perfectly and this seat is very easy to install and adjust. Fits wonderfully in both of our cars, we have a Ford Explorer and a small VW Jetta, no issues with fit at all. In the Jetta only one more person can sit in the back seat, but in the explorer we can still use all the seats! The pattern is absolutely adorable as well. We have a Chicco NextFit, but we actually prefer this seat and love that we can switch it to a belt-positioning booster when she's ready.

Our daughter was extremely comfortable in the carseat and slept soundly. It's a very pretty print, and cleaned easily. We were in a major car accident and she was so secure in this that she came out of the accident completely fine. The firefighter said he'd be getting one of these for his son after seeing how well it performed. I'd definitely recommend for child comfort and parent's peace of mind. The install was a little tricky, but there's a video online that walks you though it, so it's pretty easy after that.

The only reason I did not give this seat a 5-star is because, like the other reviewers have noted, it is difficult to get reclined properly in the rear-facing position (we have a Dodge Grand Caravan with captain's chairs). We solved this with an old towel rolled up under the front of the seat, but my dd's head still "droops" when she falls asleep -- might need to try the pool noodle suggestion next.I was looking for longevity in a car seat. I loved my Britax Infant seat, but finally, at 15 months, my dd had outgrown it at 30". I wanted a seat that would take her from rear facing as long as possible to a sturdy booster that would fit up to 100 lbs. Since we are all tall in my family (I'm 5'9", hubby is 6'3"), I also wanted one that would last height-wise as well. I looked at the Britax seats, but I didn't feel they would last long enough due to the height limitations.Another thing I was looking for was a seat that was not so "safe" as to block my dd's view since she loves to look out the window. I felt this seat had the right blend of safety and visibility.We also travel a lot, and I wanted a seat that would be comfortable on long car rides. I also wanted it to have a detachable cup holder for the same reason. Other seats that I looked at had very little seat padding, but this seat has great padding and the cover seems like it will be relatively easy to remove and clean (I haven't tried yet), and the cup holder is detachable for easy cleaning. The fabric is "polyester-esque" which makes it easy to wipe clean for small messes. I like the extra removable padding along the sides since my dd may be tall, but she is also thin, and the extra padding helps keep her from sliding around in the seat for now.I like that the harness can be adjusted without having to re-thread the shoulder straps. I also love that the arm rests are "locked" into place but move easily by pulling out first and then turning them. I like the recline feature (not enough for rear facing though), and I hope that it will be more convenient once my dd is forward facing in the seat.All in all, I am very happy with this seat, and my dd seems to be enjoying it as well.

Arrived super fast! Color is very nice and fabric as well. Having to use it with towel underneath in the rear facing position, pain in the ass....but relatively easy to install forward facing! BIG - so do check out your car or see about the possibility to try one out from a store! In all I love this car seat! We have the alpha omega in our truck, it's a little smaller so a good option for a small car or little space instead of the elite model...
