He has one in his office and I need one to use at home for my back. The surface is a little soft but it doesn’t seem that there is any give after the first 1/8 inch of the surface. I think it will work fine for me. For a young fitness buff it might not be what they want but for older, arthritic conditions, I think it will be fine . The fact that my chiropractor had the same thing in his office says a lot for me. I got the 18” because the ad stated 18” for back.
