Mine had a small black plastic cover that came in the box. Find the mounting bolt, remove indicator, replace with cover. By the way, this is just the right(rear) shifter... **Q: Does it have the red visual index showing the gear you are in?** A: Yes it has that red sign but it doesn't have the numbers of which gear is. **Q: does it come with the housing and cable? only the left side available?** A: Yes, it comes with housing and cable. Upgraded brakes to XT 8120 so could no longer attach and use.
