## Description

After scientists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green, Devil ) discover mysterious cave drawings that point to the origins of mankind, they soon find themselves aboard the spaceship Prometheus, sponsored by Weyland Industries and on a journey to uncover the secrets of humanity. Overseen by the imperious Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron, Snow White and the Huntsman ), looked after by the android David (Michael Fassbender, X-Men: First Class ), and backed up by a team of scientists, Shaw and Holloway arrive on the isolated moon LV-223 to discover an abandoned alien spaceship and the truth… that not all is as it seems... "A chillingly classy epic" *****--- Mail On Sunday "A classic in its own right" 10/10 -- Daily Star "It doesn’t get much better than this" ***** -- The Sun Special Features You want an alien world created anew, with wonders and horrors lurking in its furrows? You go to Ridley Scott, of course, spectacle maker and pictorialist par excellence. So Prometheus is bound to be eye filling, with fully wrought planetary vistas and occasionally jaw-dropping visual coups. And did we use the word alien back there? Yes, folks, Prometheus is a prequel, in a sideways sort of fashion, to Scott's 1979 Alien original--or at least it's a long-distant stage setter for that story. This one begins with a space mission that could reveal the extraterrestrial roots of Earth, although what's buried out on the planet turns out to be much more complicated than expected. In the midst of suspenseful episodes (and a few contrived plot turns), Prometheus reaches for Big Answers to Big Questions, in a grand old sci-fi tradition. This lends the movie a hint of metaphysical energy, even if Scott's reach extends well, well beyond his grasp. The hokier moments are carried off with brio by Michael Fassbender (the robot on board), Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba, and then you've got Noomi Rapace entering the badass hall of fame for a long, oh-no-they-didn't sequence involving radical surgery, which might just induce the vapours in a few viewers. Even if Prometheus has its holes, the sheer size of the thing is exciting to be around. Because this movie is gigantic. --Robert Horton.

Review: Excellent Package - This is a review of the whole package but I will touch upon the film as well. I bought the 3D bluray pack that come with the 2D version of the film and a whole load of extras. 1st: The 3d looks pretty stunning, having watched it through on a 42" TV set the picture looked good, there was some slight fuzziness of some of the opening credits but as a whole it looked very good. The menus have been rendered into 3D and it gives a very cohesive look. 2nd 2D blu ray worked well and had some nice special features. I have not listened to any of the commentaries (you'll forgive me that when I talk about the extras), but I have tested out the feature where you sync your ipad to the film by downloading an app. The film plays and pauses to allow you to watch so,e items appear on the ipad that relate to the scenes you are watching. It works well, was easy to set up and has a lot of useful information. 3rd: The extras are a mammoth undertaking. The main extras feature clocks in at 3.5 hours, you can also set it up to divert to about 26 mini features lasting 1-5 minutes that give you further insight into the making. The main feature is long but covers from initial idea, through scripting and design to the filming and release of the movie. It is very informative and often does not hold back. There are times when you can hear the disappointment as the crew talk about things that maybe did not work or were abandoned. It discusses what the film might have been like had it stayed as a true prequel to Alien. Well worth watching and certainly provides much needed insight into the making of Prometheus. The film itself is a solid sci-fi affair. Fans of sci-fi will recognise some of the situations and fans of the Alien franchise will be familiar with the set up. What I enjoyed was that it didn't feel like it tried to recreate the other Alien films too much. There were nods to it (sometimes very big nods) but that is to be expected in a film set in the same universe. There are plot holes, some of those explained a little in the deleted scenes, which if left in would have given some context to character decisions. There will be even one moment where you might shout at your screen, 'run to the side you silly person' I personally enjoyed the film, however I went not quite knowing what I would expect having read the blurb about it NOT being a prequel to Alien. I know the film has divided opinion, but certainly I think that may be down to high expectations. However, if you are looking to be entertained then this film does that. Watch it in 3D, then watch the feature length extras and you will certainly feel that you bout a quality product and got your money's worth.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just Don't Know? PLOT POINTS GIVEN AWAY
*by I***N on 6 November 2012*

Well, I've just watched this for the second time and ............ I just don't know! There are a lot of things right with this film; the epic scale, the beautiful cinematography, the designs etc. but there are a lot of things wrong. First of all I think that the film tries to reference earlier Alien movies, as well as influences, too much. The scenes of primitive earth at the beginning of the film are reminiscent of 2001's stargate sequence. The scene of David playing basketball reflects the moment the crew of the "Betty" meet Ripley's clone in "Resurrection".The vehicle running over Fifield relates back to the APC scene in "Aliens". However, rather than include these nods to previous films I think that the plot and script (more of which later) could have been more polished. There are some clever aspects to the plot; David the android is obsessed with Lawrence of Arabia. A film by DAVID Lean which is about cinematic grandeur as much as T. E. Lawrence, the kind of cinematic grandeur Scott does so well. Also, T. E. Lawrence had ulterior motives when uniting the Arabs against the Turks. David the android also has ulterior motives whilst performing his servile duties for the crew. T. E. Lawrence also knew Joseph Conrad's work very well (the writer of "Nostromo", the name of the ship in the original films. David is also the name of the android boy in AI. More clever references but............. There are also some incredibly daft aspects of the plot: 1. Holloway (a scientist)doesn't feel it necessary to tell anyone that he has worms in his eyes having been infected with the "black goo". By doing this David is putting the whole crew at risk, including his maker, Weyland. 2. Shaw, beats up members of the medical team who are attempting to put her into stasis, staggers along corridors only to find Weyland alive and tended by David. Instead of any drama regarding the "aren't you dead?" Weyland situation and the "aren't you in stasis?" Shaw situation everyone sits down for a philosophical discussion. Also, she shows no animosity towards David until much later on in the film. There is no further mention of Shaw's violent behaviour towards other crew members. 3. Fifield goes missing! His helmet cam appears outside the ship! Before opening the door would you not get on the intercom? Has the ship no external cameras? Dumb move as he manages to kill most of the "expendable" members of the crew. 4. Vicker's meeting with her "father". Why would she be fighting for boardroom dominance if Weyland was believed to be dead? The way she says "father" is reminiscent of Batty's meeting with Tyrell in Blade Runner. Is she also an android? (Links with this Scott film in a moment!) 5. Captain and crew's sacrifice; there seems no sense of self preservation in the male protagonists on the ship in fact two of the crew volunteer to die for no other reason than to exit the script 6. Unexplained growth; how did the foetus cut from Shaw become the size of an octopus which could engulf an eight foot alien? The movie explores the themes of religion, but, more tellingly, of what "life" and "identity" is. It seems to be as much a relation to "Blade Runner" as it is to "Alien". Who is my creator? seems to be the main question asked by the characters in this film. Did Weyland buy out the Tyrell corporation once Roy Batty had destroyed his creator in 2019? Prometheus is a stunning, frustrating, thought provoking, beautiful film which I will watch repeatedly. I just don't know if this will make it a classic or a dud. I do remember seeing Blade Runner in 1982 and thinking that it was a milestone in cinema but I just can't get past the plot inconsistencies which are huge. THE 3D BLU RAY: This is an excellent use of the 3D medium. It works well but is in no way intrusive. The cinematography is exquisite as is the detail in the sets which immerses the viewer in the film. The sound is also stunning, involving and filling the room. THE 2D BLU RAY: The second disc is a 2D version of the film and includes a number of deleted/expanded scenes and various marketing videos featuring Weyland and David. Some of the scenes add more depth to the characters and I prefer the alternate fifield sequence featured here. THE EXTRAS The third disc is an exhaustive documentary of the process of making the film with various "enhancement pods". This shows the effort which has gone into the production and also offers some tantalising glimpses of cut scenes which didn't make it onto disc 2. It is fascinating, leaving no stone unturned but throughout it I couldn't help feeling that, although the "devil may be in the detail", having a story that makes sense is a vital start for a film. This is something Prometheus lacks in places and why it fits into the "great but flawed" catagory. Never the less it is an enjoyable home cinema experience. Give it a go and make up your own mind.
