Review: MOTOX4 from desertcart WILL work on Verizon as of July 2018 - This has turned out to be a great buy, and it DOES work on Verizon. (More about that in a bit) Purchased it on Prime Day to replace an old Samsung Note 2 that my wife was using.. Did not realize it did not come with a SIM card, so did not order one. While the phone will not work on Verizon without the SIM card, it will do everything else except calls and text messages connected to wi-fi. So I used that to get it set up. I logged into her Google account and everything from her existing phone loaded on the new phone, easy breezy. The Device Help app that comes loaded on the phone is super helpful. I am using a Moto Z Play, and in setting up the new Moto X I learned some new things for my own phone. Now for Verizon. We have gone to prepaid plans and are saving a lot of money, but the service is not the same. I went on the website to read how to activate a bring your own phone but kept getting to dead ends. I could find no way to get my questions answered, and tried calling twice, only to have the call dropped both times. So I read the desertcart on-line reviews and found a variety of experience in activating it with Verizon... some easy and some that never worked, with some saying that this phone will not work with Verizon. After reading all the reviews I decided to try the local Verizon store for the SIM card, rather than ordering it online, or going to Best Buy which would be 40 miles away. The Note 2 uses a micro Sim card, and the MotoX4 uses a nano SIM card, so I could not use the old one. The local store did sell me a nano SIM card for $10.00 BUT said they would take no responsibility for it working. They claimed that only about 50% of phone bought on desertcart would work on Verizon, and that as of June 30th, 2018, Verizon was no longer allowing activation of some phones because of the coming move to 5G. The did not offer to try to activate it for a fee and I did not ask them to. Came home, followed the instructions in the Device Help app to inset the Nano Sim Card and a 64GB memory card purchased from desertcart, no problem. Logged onto My Verizon, and indicated that I wanted to switch the device on that line. It said to input the ID number for the new VERIZON device... but by then I had learned that they would want the IME number that is printed on the MOTOX box. I gave that, and no problem. The they wanted the SIM card ID number. Fortunately another review said to save the packaging for this number, which I had done... but there were 4 numbers on the packaging and Verizon was no help in showing how to find it. So I googled and found that the SIM ID number would be 20 digits long, and only one of the numbers fit that. I put it in and it worked. The website asked me to confirm that I wanted to switch devices, and I did. It said it might take as much as 15 minutes for their records to update. DONE! Works perfectly! If you think you have to be tech savvy to do this, I'm an 80-year old not so tech savvy guy...but willing to keep looking until I find an answer. You can do this. Bottom line, for under $250 I have a wonderful phone that does everything we want and more, on an affordable plan ($40.00 a month prepaid with 6GB data) on a good network, with 96GB of memory. NOT Bad! I won't repeat details of the phone that have been covered in other reviews and yes, you will want at least a minimal case... it is VERY slippery, and probably a screen protector, but it is a super phone that will hold its own against ones that cost 4 times as much.
Review: For $129.99 Very Good Deal - Update: 8 months with this phone, no major complaints, updated the SD card to 64 from 32, wish that Motorola would update the OS to allow adoptable storage. Still takes good photos, and will will most likely buy a Motorola phone in the future. I got this phone for $129.99, I was actually looking at purchasing the Moto G6 after seeing it on sale at Costco, I checked desertcart which had the 64gb version for cheaper, but I waited to long and missed out on the G6... All good things come to those who wait. So I prayed and said, GOD perhaps you have something better for me instead. and yup he did. Definitely happy with the Moto x4 which was $40 less then the sale price of the Moto G6, and after reviewing the specs, the Moto X4 has a faster processor and better video card. Love the camera, takes lighting fast snaps, great video and the speaker is very good. I haven't had a chance in a long time to use the most update Android os (last version was Nougut), the Moto X4 came with Oreo, and offered security updates and then the OS updated to andoird 9 (Pie). It does come with some desertcart apps, which I currently don't use, so I turned those off, except for desertcart prime video. Besides that no major bloatware from manufacturer, and mostly google apps installed. Overall solid phone for the price. list of my previous phones Samsung Galaxy S 4g, SII, S4 Zte Max, zinger, Blade S6 Alcatel One touch fierce xl, Idol 4s LG stylo, LG G4 I definitely feel for the price I paid for this phone vs performance I got the best deal I have ever gotten for a smart phone. Would definitely recommend!! I guess I have now moved from Samsung/ZTE/Alcatel/LG to Motorolla. Quality phone.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Initial thoughts: Very good to great phone, super deal at these prices.
*by D***. on November 9, 2018*

Disclaimer: this is a replacement for an aging Galaxy S5, so maybe my baseline expectations were a little on the low side? After a few days with this phone, I am still impressed. Phone is running Oreo 8.1.0 and hums along very nicely. It is a bit of an adjustment from the old S5 to Oreo, with the largest issue being the lack of badging in the launch bar, the Galaxy had # of unread emails available on the icon in the launch bar. Actually, that is an Android issue, not the phone. One challenge for me when upgrading was to find a good email client for MS Exchange. My old Samsung had a very good email client from Samsung. The Moto X4 uses Google Gmail client which lost a lot of functionality for me (ex: Rich Text editing, bullet lists, etc). After some research I found '9 Folders' email client and I am a very happy camper once again. Battery life seems to be excellent, at this moment I am 10 hours since last charge, ~1.5 hours of screen time and 2.5 hours of voice calls and I still have 60% battery remaining. Old phone even with a new battery would have been <20% remaining on it's best day. Fingerprint Sensor: I got into a phone battle with an iPhone user at the office today. Who can unlock faster with the finger print sensor? Moto x4 about 70% of the time. Iphone got a little closer if you woke it up first. The Moto x4 unlocks super fast with almost no misreads. I am impressed! Moto Actions: Again, maybe I am easily impressed. Phone has two gestures, one for the flashlight, and one for the camera. Both seem very reliable. These are a great idea, it takes way too long to unlock and find the app to turn the light on, instead I can just shake the phone and get my flashlight or camera. We also did the phone battle for the flashlight, Moto x4 won hands down. **Note: these gestures don't work when the phone is in your pocket (another good idea). However, the see through Lenovo flip cover kills these functions because the phone sees the cover and thinks it is in your pocket all the time. Amazon Ads: Saw a lot of reviews and complaints about the Amazon ads. Not sure what is going on, but I have no ads. I was able to hide any amazon apps I didn't want, and I don't get any unsolicited pop-ups from Amazon. My Conclusion: Snappy interface with a close to pure Android experience. Hardware seems to be top notch. I don't think you can touch this level of performance in this price range anywhere else. Excellent value.
