The first one I installed last week works great but the second one ended up just blowing warm air. I contacted the company via email (only way to engage them) last Friday evening to initiate support/return. I didn't expect them to answer over the weekend so I decided to initiate the return/replacement with Amazon. Windmillair actually responded to me multiple times over the weekend to offer help. They expressed their concern that they are having shipping channel distribution problems with carriers damaging the internals of the units. Bottom line - your unit is most likely damaged like mine was. Stay Breezy! ----- Windmill Customer Support ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Incredibly easy to install but noisy at low fan and compressor cycling down or up *by on Reviewed in the United States 19 August 2023* Bought 8000 btu whispertech unit to help out my 20 year old AC in the 2023 heatwave - QUICK PROS and CONS - incredibly easy install, cold air right away and cooled the whole room and partly cooled two adjacent rooms quickly (about 700 sf) BUT noisy on the low fan setting and compressor is noisy cycling on and off, louder than my 10 year old basic window AC. ==== PROS - install is amazingly simple, remove from box, slide into window, close window, pull out side screens, screw into place, snap on side screen covers (reduces heat), put provided foam in top of window (keep out bugs and blocks heat), about 30 minutes total. I did it by myself by putting in on a table in front of the window, sliding it partly over the window sill, then went outside and pulled it thru, holding the back up with one hand while pulling the window down with the other. If you're installing on an upper floor with no outside access, you will want two people on the inside, one to keep it from falling out and one to pull the window down - the outside part is long and heavy. Cools the whole room very quickly, that's where the vents pointing upward and sideways really works well. The app is great - connecting it up was simple and quick and I like the automations with one caveat (in the Cons). Also love that the front panel and filter inside are magnetic, no shuffling around trying to get them into clips, just an easy snap on. Also, the way it's packaged makes it very easy to get out of the box - cut the straps and you can lift up the sides and top, the unit is sitting on bottom, no struggling to lift it up and over the sides. I was very thankful for this. The lights go off fairly quickly (easy to read across the room) and it doesn't beep (that can be turned on in the app but is off by default). --- NOTE - if the delivery guy leaves it sideways, let it sit upright for 24 hours so that oil and refrigerant drains back into the proper places. Even if delivered upright, might be good to do that as you don't know how it was stored during the whole delivery process. --- CONS - as someone mentions in another review, it's noisy at the low fan level, that's very annoying as I'd like to have it on low fan for less noise but instead I get more noise. The compressor cycling on and off is also very noisy, more than my 10 year old basic window AC. For these two reasons, I can't put this in my bedroom (bought the Midea for the bedroom even tho the install is such a horrible mess). So it's in my dining room and another one in my living room where I usually leave them both on medium and cool. One thing to note - that while it doesn't blow on you if you're sitting in front of the unit, it does blow on you if you're across the room. I sit about 10 feet away from it on the other side of my dining room and the cold breeze falls right on me which is a little too much (that's why I wish I could set the fan to low). The automations on the app - I set it to turn on, set to cool, set fan to medium early in the morning and when I got up, it was on low and eco. I figure that because the order of the settings in the automation are: fan, mode, power, temp, it's sending the fan and mode commands and then turning on the unit, meaning it never gets the first two commands (how stupid). So I set the automation to power on, set temp, then wait one second (there's a timer option), set mode to cool, wait one second, set fan to medium and that works. There's a remote but I never use it, Buttons on the front of it are hard to read and tiny so using the app or the remote is the best choice. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quiet and energy efficient *by on Reviewed in the United States 5 August 2026* I live in a 100+ year old, two story home that has a boiler for heat and no air conditioning. I’ve used Amana, Whirlpool and G.E. air conditioners to cool my house. Some with more btu(15,000) and they’ve cooled about the same as the Windmill, but with more noise and way heavier.I really appreciate the size, weight and quiet with the windmill unit. It seems to have a soft start to it as well.(no pounding, shaking start to the compressor) The Windmill’s also have the ability to connect to our local network allowing us to turn it on or off over our phones. You can check on the room temperature and monitor the current energy usage.I now have two 8,000 btu Windmill units, one for upstairs and one in my downstairs bedroom. They are able to keep my house at very comfortable temperatures except for when it’s 100°+ and high humidity here in the Midwest. Most days I only run the one downstairs.I really appreciate the features, weight and quiet. Well worth the investment! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As good as they claim *by on Reviewed in the United States 3 April 2025* I’ve had to deal with Window units on and off over the last 40 years, some pretty new and some built in the early Sixties (they are REALLY heavy), but I will say this is the nicest I’ve used. But expectations are everything, if you think it will be a miracle machine you may be disappointed. But if you like good industrial design, care how it looks, and love the idea of controlling with your phone, I think you’ll be pretty happy with it. It was easy to unpack, easy to install (with really clear instructions), didn’t require anything not in the box to install (yes, it really does come with scissors to cut the side panels. If you think that’s ridiculous you haven’t been around people under 30 much lately), it’s powerful, and has a great App. I don’t want to pick on anyone else’s review, everyone has their own pain points and expectations, and yours may not be met: no product can be perfect for everyone.But I think it’s a good, well made, and quiet unit, that looks nice and does pretty much what they say it will. The “Inverter” that comes with the WhisperTech just means that the compressor is variable speed; unlike the old units we dealt with that only ran at full blast, this guy will speed up and slow down depending on how much cooling is needed. This can cause the unit to rattle on startup, or make noises when it’s changing speed that people aren’t used to associating with AC units and they assume it’s a flaw. It’s really just a temporary side-effect of a great feature: variable speed means it’s quieter and uses less energy just keeping your room cold than it uses to get it cold in the first place. This is a good thing.I don’t leave a lot of reviews, and this product doesn’t really need any help, it has a great star rating already. But I do see a fair number of one star, “Just don’t buy it!” reviews that are based on things like it broke after a week or the filter isn’t a HEPA filter and that makes the whole thing useless, where they are not reviewing the unit itself, but rather their disappointment that it failed in one specific thing that they hate (it doesn’t say it has a HEPA filter—you may want one but that’s not a flaw in the unit). Just read the description they gave it, and strip out all the shiny phrases and exclamation points marketing put in, and decide if the product they describe is what you want. As I said way at the top, before we all got old reading this review: it’s as good as they say it is. I think most people will enjoy it and think it was worth the money.
