## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the bottle say anything about the cumin being irradiated?**
A: Good question! Irradiation (ionized radiation) is a process that kills any possible existing bacteria and extends shelf life at the cost of losing any medicinal benefits of the spice.

In the United States, herbs and spices that are irradiated must be labeled as irradiated on the packaging; however there is a loophole, prepared foods are exempt from this requirement.
As a result, many companies will put spices through a 'process' so that they don't have to label irradiation. So chances are, if a product has not been irradiated, it would be advertised as NON-IRRADIATED front and center.

I posed the question about the expiration date of this product and received a reply that boasts a shelf life of 1525 days (5 years), that alone answers any questions about irradiation.

For those interested, if a product is not irradiated, then how do we know it's safe for human consumption?
Well one of the main functions of spices and seasonings (besides adding flavour to food) is anti-viral and anti-bacterial.
Cinnamon, Garlic, Cloves, Pepper, and Ginger (to name a few) are all 'virus' inhibitors, that's why it's commonly used in cured meats.
Foods and spices that are not irradiated may also contain "good bacteria" to help promote a healthy intestinal system.
This is why many yogurt companies add live bacterial culture and advertise it!

I know this answer is 5 years late, but hopefully it'll help anyone from this posting and onward.

**Q: Why is there a video of castle foods cumin seeds? is this made/bottled by castle foods?**
A: Thank you for your interest in Badia Spices. That video you see is not apart of our product. It is under Videos for related products, that is all done by Amazon, not Badia Spices. Please feel free to contact us directly should you have any further questions or concerns.

**Q: Are there any food allergen warnings on bottle? If there is an expiration date, is it a good timeframe from date of your purchase? Thanks.**
A: Label states "certified gluten free" with GF symbol. No other allergen information. Expiration date stamped on top is "best by 12/2018".

**Q: Can these be eaten by themselves?**
A: Yes you could eat them by themselves, I just don't know why you would want to but they certanly wouldn't hurt you.
