Rampage
What a movie! Having studied rampage shootings for reasons I won't bore you with here I can honestly say that this is as close as you'd want to get to one. A truly brutal account of a shooting perpetrated by a nothing special 20 something white man who has small but grating grievances. Parents that are on his case, moron boss, a one horse town and surrounded by the ignorance of people around him he embarks upon a spree. Truth is this could be anyone, the guy you flipped off in the car, the guy serving you at Starbucks, your neighbour.... I can't stress enough how well this movie puts its point across, maybe because I've seen the real accounts of actual shootings but whatever way it's a film everyone should see. A worryingly relatable film that makes uneasy watching if you absorb it's message. See it!

Horrible subject matter produces a pretty good film in this case
I see a lot of other reviews commenting on the director and how he's known for rubbish films. Well, I'd never heard of him or this film. I just took a punt on it as it had some good reviews.I thought it was a good film. I expected it just to be a nihilistic, formulaic cops-chase-bad-guy-until-a-final-showdown-type affair but there's a twist that caught me unaware and it's an interesting and very topical premise, what with gun rampages being such a hot topic at the moment. It was grisly but interesting to follow events from the shooter's perspective. Not a film that will be enjoyed by anyone who has been directly or indirectly affected by a mass shooting. It could also be argued that it is in bad taste. However, the film does spend a fair amount of time making reference to the social conditions that possibly contribute to such murderous outbursts so at least it prompts the viewer to consider that aspect and consequently how events like these could be predicted or prevented in future. It's a horrible subject and I think it's better to acknowledge and examine it rather than declare it too horrible for film and sweep it under the carpet again until the next shooting, as seems to have happened in America so many times now. It's by no means perfectly executed (no pun); there are some distinctly suspect-looking special effects during one of the car chases and I did find myself wondering how the hell the shooter got as much freedom as he did after the first few bursts of semi-automatic gunfire rang out in a public place. I'm pretty sure the police would have been all over him more quickly than happens in the film. Then again, I'm not from a community like the one in which the film is set. Maybe it's set in a town completely unaccustomed to large-scale emergencies and an inadequately equipped local police force was caught off-guard.Anyway, fairly minor gripes about a very watchable film. If you're not put off by the subject matter then it's worth a watch.

Once you look past the hyperbole, this is just glorifying spree killing.
The structural argument is strong, but at the end of the day, how can one affect change in the face of the status quo of controlling power?Well, this film advocates brutal violence and misses the mark completely. The protagonist is a sociopath pure and simple. He believes in his own hyperbole, but when you look past his apparent manifesto, he kills for the joy of it.

"..BRILLIANT.."
This film is so insane and full of mindless violence its brilliant!!! The story is simple but does have a good moral to it which im sure a lot of us would agree with. The main character in this film played by (Brendan Fletcher) goes a little to the extreme to prove a point but its very well made, complete insanity and blood and violence! Certainly i would say this is well worth checking out for its originality and pure balls by director Uwe Boll who has certainly made his best film to date! Brendan Fletcher plays the lead brilliant, the cast is very small and so is the budget with some shakey camera work but it all adds to the style of the movie, and even though there is allot of shocking madness to this film it even raises a few laughs in places!!!

Uwe Boll's best film
Having watched a US (NTSC) copy of this straight to DVD I was initially sceptical on how good it was going to be. I needn't have worried. This is by far the best film Uwe Boll has produced, it really doesn't deserve to be straight to DVD. It is unashamedly violent and due to recent murderous shooting sprees around the world, it could be considered bad taste. I think we can all in some way relate to the main protaganist when he just snaps, he has been pushed to far. Don't mistake this for a more violent version of Falling Down, this is a unique film in its own right. We can all be thankful for the tight gun laws here in the UK.

Sad blood-spattered popcorn.
Ever wondered if being a mass-shooter is actually rather fun? This nihilistic gore-fest ponders the question while attempting to splice in some "existential threat" with garbled nonsense about oil spills, global warming and Iraq. When Ray Bradbury wrote the suburbs "dream of violence" he evoked a sleeping capacity for mayhem somewhere deep in the collective unconscious. Sadly, while promising to go there, Rampage is quite mind bogglingly shallow. Rather than going after the relevant politicians and billionaires (which we could at least dimly understand) our guy just kills people at random. While apparently smart enough to build a self driving car, Bill seems incapable of choosing targets of any relevance. While you could argue that this is what we see in actual mass shootings, this begs the question of why we're watching it at all. Without irony and with no plot to speak of, it's really just ring-side seats at a tragedy. Pass the blood-spattered popcorn.
