Review: Very precise temperature control, which turns out to be a very important feature! - I bought one to see if I wanted to switch out my profile electric oven for an induction cooktop instead. So I bought this unit here to check out and experiment with induction. I used this thing for well over a year and learned I did like induction and so well that this Nuwave Titanium stayed on top of my old electric stove, only I just wasn't using my electric stove at all anymore because cooking on the Nuwave was just that much better. And it wasn't too high, or tall, to just live on top of my electric stovetop fulltime. One thing I really loved about my Titanium Induction Cooktop was the 5 degree incremental control. I slowly learned exactly what temperature I needed to set it to in order to fry an egg, make an omelet, or sear a steak. I can't imagine getting a portable unit that would only let you jump in 20, 30 or even 40 degree increments. Really, all-in-all I am of the opinion that if you really want to do better than this unit, then you are going to have to fork-out over a thousand dollars for a Breville Control Freak Smart Induction Cooker or something. I have noted that one thing many professional reviewers seem to cite as being their one reason for not including this unit at the top of their recommendation list, is that they near all mention the buttons and how complicated it can be to learn to use all of its programming potentials, which is a lot, but that's really a crazy objection since there is nothing preventing one from just using it and not bothering to program it 40 different ways, but to just use it. Really, it's not that tough if you just want to pick a temperature and go, and if you want something that you can program every which way you can imagine, or to use the probe to maintain the temperature inside a pot, then you have those features at your disposal if you want to bother to learn how to use them, and those are some options you won't even have with a lot of recommended portable cooktops. It's good to be able to do all of those things if you want to, and it is certainly not worth going with some super simple to use thing that lacks features and option and also traps you into having to adjust your temperature in 20 or 30 degree increments. I saw one highly recommended induction cooktop the increments were almost 40 degrees, which won't be so smooth when you have to choose between egg hardly cooking, or burning instead, or for something a recipe calls for a simmer, only your choice is between too cool to even be simmering, or jump up 38 degrees to a rapid rolling boil. No way you want to be limited like that and not even if some highly regarded reviews recommended such a unit. The 5-degree increment control on this thing is just killer and makes precise temperature control possible for perfect cooking of what whatever it is you are cooking. I can't imagine being happy with any portable cooktop that doesn't at least narrows down its temperature control to at least 10-degree increments, tops. 5-degree increments makes it really easy to learn exactly how hot you want it a skillet to be for an omelet for instance, to cook it fast but not scald or burn it not, and so on, as you can quickly learning exactly what temperature you like for various things you routinely make. 5-degree increments. Don't underestimate the value in that. You can end up choosing between slight simmer, a little bit more simmering, slightly boiling, boiling or rapid rolling boil. Precision is in temperature control is a valuable thing. If there was one thing maybe I wasn't totally sure about, is that I'm not so sure it has magnets for a full 8 inch diameter, rather than closer to 6. But since so many of the units top reviews seem to like only have 6-inch active diameters anyway, I'm not sure that's really such a big deal, and I never took it apart to check and be sure about that one way or the other anyway. Anyway, I have a full GE profile induction cooktop now, so I don't use it anymore, but I don't want to sell or give it away either, because if I ever need a portable unit someday, for some reason, THIS is the portable induction cooktop I want to use. (Unless somebody wants to buy me a Breville Control Freak Smart Induction Cooker!) Unless there is something new on the market, as far as portable induction cooktop burners go, I really think this Nuwave Titanium is about the best you can to do for under $1,000.
Review: It may not be Perfect, but it's Amazing - It may not be Perfect, but it's Amazing Here's a Surprise: My first Nuwave Titanium wouldn't go over 340F in Target Hold mode with the Probe, though it's supposed to. Several exchanges with Nuwave customer support ended with the suggestion to start a warranty claim. Since I bought it from desertcart only days before, I returned it there. I really wanted it to work, so I ordered another, but didn't have high hopes. Testing this one with the probe, it held water at 190F (as did the first), then Oil at 325F, and rebounded nicely after a whole small potato of French fries dragged it down to 302F. I reset the Target Hold to 375F, expecting it to stall at 340F like the first one, but it kept climbing to 375F and held that while I put the Fries back in for the second cook; it dropped to 353F (including me stirring them a bit) and didn't have time to recover because after two minutes they were sufficiently browned and I took them out. Next time I'll set it higher, maybe 385F for a bit more crispness. While it was heating to 375F I noticed the lights on the Med and High buttons were on, so, aside from the target hold temperature, the cooker was set to 375F (from a previous job), so I pushed the Sear button and it showed 575F without disturbing the Probe, which may have helped it recover better (next time I'll pay more attention). So here are some cooking jobs that make this an Amazing tool. - The best pinto beans I've ever made, using the Probe at 209F. They keep a high enough temperature to cook faster than ever without sticking or burning. On gas or electric I had to put the pot on a burner protector (those double layer metal things with holes). The temp was either too low causing very slow cooking, or too high causing sticking, and the required heat depends on where it is in the cooking cycle. - Broth with the Probe at 190F, the Timer at 8 hours, and I can just check it now and then. The steady temperature preserves nutrients by not getting too hot, and cooks at a steady pace without going below 190F. - Soups and stews, set the probe to your desired cooking temperature and it will stay that way. - Render Fat. A touchy job, and the required temperature changes during the cooking cycle, starting low and increasing, but the probe holds it at whatever I set it for, unlike the fluctuations that occur on the gas or electric stove that requires more constant attention. I just increase the Probe temp now and then as required. - Eggs, cook at a steady temperature without browning, if that is your choice. - Meat, sears at a higher temperature than even my gas stove could reach. - Homemade Tortillas or English Muffins, the griddle recovers faster after putting on a new batch, holding a higher heat than even the large burner on my Kitchen Aid gas stove (Propane). Some people have complained about the temperature pulsing too much: The Solution, turn the wattage down to the lowest setting (700 watts), so when the burner pulses it turns on with less power making a more gentle pulse. Even the Breville Control Freak manual suggests doing this. But Remember to set it back up for the next job, if that is what is required. Anyway, The Titanium with the Probe has changed the way I cook, and for the better. I also have the Changbert with 18 Temp settings, and that isn't enough, but it still does some jobs fine; like boiling coffee water VERY fast, being a great size and shape to hold a 12" square griddle for making flatbreads and English Muffins, and recovering temperature quickly when putting on a new batch, and other jobs that don't require an exact temperature, or require me to stay close to adjust it. An Induction cooker with a Probe, whether it is the Titanium, Control Freak, or another brand, is totally worth it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Full power from wall socket; but it's operation can be a little confusing

This review is for the NuWave Titanium PIC. I also have owned a Gold version for about 2 years now so will provide some comparison. The advantages of the Titanium are: 1800W vs 1500W, a removable temperature probe (measures temperature like a regular probe, can be set to turn off the PIC when the probe reaches a set temperature, or it can be set to hold a temperature once it has been reached), the Titanium has a front located on/off switch (however, the Titanium is still a phantom load of 2 watts when turned off – this feature mainly blanks the display and prevents stray fingers playing with the controls whereas Gold display is on as long as it's plugged in), it has a better keypad IMO compared to the Gold (many owners of Flex and Gold have criticized the keypad), it deletes the medium low preset for the probe button, and you can set the default power on temperature value to your liking. Otherwise it's essentially same as Gold PIC. I've been using the Titanium with an energy monitor since it was purchased a few months ago. I also used the same energy monitor for the Gold. The monitor has given me some insight to both the Titanium and Gold operation. I haven't used an induction range top to compare with the PICs; but it is important to understand that the PIC will control the wattage applied to the cook top more or less linearly from half of rated wattage up to full wattage; i.e., 900W for Titanium and 750W for Gold. When the PIC determines the wattage needed is less than half maximum the it will somewhat slowly cycle power on/off; I was expecting a PWM operation for control but that's not the case here. For example, I make a single serving of oatmeal in a 1qt stainless pan; 1 cup water brought to boil using “high” (400F) setting in 1-2 minutes (the small pan size limits heat transfer to about 1200 watts), then add 1/2c oatmeal, reduce temperature and cook away the water for next 6-8 min. With the Gold I would simply adjust the temp down to 260F and let the water cook away. (260F is where the water would continuously low boil rather than cycle on/off; at 600W – small pan remember) The Titanium however requires me to adjust the power setting from 1800W to 700W and temperature to 215F so it will boil the water; but not boil over. Setting power level to 700W limits the PIC to applying only 600W to the pan vs 900W. In all tests of 1500W or 1800W power setting on Titanium, either the pot would boil over or slowly cycle the heat on/off – no steady low boil. When I say slowly cycle I mean it's about 10-12 seconds from heating on to off to heating on again. A very noticeable aspect when watching the cooking process. I've never tried letting the oatmeal “cook” to completion when the PIC cycles on/off; seems like it would take a lot longer to get cooked. So, key takeaways: get a wall plug power switch for either model, play with the cooking temp and/or power settings to learn what works best for you, and if like using a probe with your microwave or other cooking appliance you'll likely want the Titanium PIC. If you have little use for the probe then the Gold PIC may be a better choice at a lower price. I've found the probe very useful for sauces, soups and such. Also as handy temp probe to make sure food is cooked to proper temp. One other oddity was I went to the NuWave website to gather more information before purchasing the Titanium and other than access to Titanium owner's manual it appeared it was not for sale direct from NuWave site – just on Amazon via NuWave seller. I definitely like the Titanium PIC and would certainly buy it again (and the Gold too). I do hope that when that time comes the PIC will have an actual on/off power switch to eliminate the phantom load and a better control system for applying power to the induction element so temperature control is fully linear (no cycling of the heat on and off). Unfortunately the thin metal disc on bottom of many aluminum “induction ready” pots/pans works the same as light SS pans. I do believe a very hefty stainless pan would provide more consistent heating with the on/off heat aspect.
