Great value
Absolutely brilliant! So much better value than a cheap one. Takes deeper fillings without leaking and the removable plates are useful in keeping it clean. Would definitely recommend as my Mother did to me. I bought one as a gift and they were also delighted.

Small / no temperature control
The space inside is very small, and there’s only 1 temperature. Takes quite q while before it’s done.

The unkillable beast
Let me preface this review by saying that I am not a clever man and my desire for sandwiches vastly outweighs my common sense. For almost 2 years I have been hugely overloading this machine with sandwich materials and it has worked tirelessly to service these requests. Unfortunately, after 2 years of me being a massive jackass the unit finally exploded into smitheroons, scattering plastic shards around my kitchen. Much to my surprise, it kept going and finished cooking the comically thick sandwich that was its doom. I have never been more proud of a machine. I am severely tempted to continue using the unit because hot damn it makes some good toasties when it isn't exploding.Tl;dr Four stars because it exploded, but it was also my fault & the unit still works fine but with a lot less toastie maker present. I will re-review if/when it explodes again.

Piece of crap
Bought brand new, brought it home to try out but it tripped the electric in the house. Must have been a faulty unit? So I traveled the whole way back to the shop, returned it and got a brand new unit, but guess what? It tripped the electric as well!I will never buy another Breville product in my life, and if someone brings one into my house it will be smashed with a hammer and the remains burned in the back garden. Absolute garbage.

Waste of money
Bought this a few months ago but never used, then as we are in lockdown with increasingly limited food options I thought I’d use up some old bread by making a toasted sandwich - yeah waste of time. Every time I turned it on it blew the electric. Fuming. And now I’m stuck with it. I see it’s also happened to someone else- don’t bother people.

Not really fit for "deep fill" toasties
Makes nice toasties but only lasted me about 10 - 15 sandwiches before the handle broke. It's not made to withstand the force of closing in a deep filled sandwich. No return information on Amazon means I'm stuck with a broken toaster now.

A workhorse, good but with flaws
I've owned this product for somewhere between 5 and 10 years. Long enough that I don't even remember my last toastie maker, or how/when it failed. It finally broke last night, and despite initially looking for a different make, I'm going to buy the same again.First of all, it makes great sandwiches. They're just the right depth, toast evenly, and there's nothing to complain about the end result. The dimensions nicely suit a standard UK loaf, with only minimal wastage through overhang. There are a couple of negatives, however.First of all, the plates whilst being easily removable for washing, develop a light black 'soot' on the underside when washed in the dishwasher. It means that every time you remove or insert the plates you'll need to wash your hands. It's annoying, but I see that the same is true for the plates of other brands (e.g. the more expensive Cuisinart model that I considered as a replacement - primarily in the hope of avoiding the same issue).Secondly, whilst this can handle a decent depth of filling, if you go crazy or use weirdly shaped bread then the cheese will leak, and the design means that you don't need a lot of leakage before the fat seeps through joints in the machine, only to solidify inside when it cools. When you next heat up the toastie maker, that same fat will start too ooze out onto the countertop. It continued to be a problem for many uses after one particularly egregious over-stuffing, to the extent that I began only using it on an oven tray. This won't be a problem if you don't go crazy with the cheese, but it's a right hassle if you do.Finally, the point of failure on my machine was the clip that holds the two handles together in use. It's annoying replacing an otherwise working machine because one plastic clip (or rather one small plastic lug within it) has failed, but it has held up pretty well over many years of restraining pretty sizeable cheese toasties. It's clearly the point on the machine that sees the most stress and it's a shame the part wasn't made of metal - a design flaw.I can't begrudge this machine its eventual demise - it has been heavily used and somewhat abused. It could be better, but I'd say it's the best toastie maker I've had and could be a lot worse.Watch the price - it seems to vary between £25 and £45 depending where you look.
