If the iron is on and it is laid down it will shut off after 60 seconds. If the iron is on and it's vertical it will shut off after 30 minutes. **Q: Experience using this iron without steam, as a dry iron?** A: Yes I have. It irons like a regular iron. It has a setting from your adjustable steam lever to turn it to Dry. I Love this iron both on steam and dry. Hope this helps. 😊 **Q: Does the retractable cord work well?** A: I am sorry, I purchased the non retractable model as the cord is longer and I have seen broken retractable cords in other brands. PS I am very happy with this iron. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spectacular Iron *by on Reviewed in the United States March 27, 2025* The CHI Iron is well-built and versatile, making it suitable for pressing or steaming any garment. The temperature control dial is nearly accurate, allowing you to select the appropriate setting for different fabrics (note that this may vary with other models). The steam function is adjustable, letting you control the level of steam output as needed, which is a fantastic feature. With two press triggers for spray and steam, this iron provides greater precision for detailing garments. The cord retraction button works effectively, provided the cord is straight and only has minor tangles. The titanium ceramic-coated soleplate allows for ease of use when pressing or steaming garments.A key safety feature is the auto shut-off, which prevents the iron from burning garments or starting a fire. It will automatically shut off after 30 minutes if resting on its heel, after 60 seconds when resting on either side and after 60 seconds when resting on the soleplate.Additionally, the self-cleaning feature uses steam to clean out the ports and remove any debris or dirt.**Cons:**The titanium ceramic coating can be scratched, as it is just a coating like that on a nonstick pan. Improper handling can damage it, especially when in contact with zippers, metal buttons, pins, and protrusions on garments. Exercise caution to protect the soleplate. While the retractable cord is convenient, it is not 100% reliable and may jam, preventing the plug from fully retracting. The cord can overlap itself inside the casing, which may cause it to get stuck, so it needs to be guided when the retraction button is engaged.Still worth purchasing💯 ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best iron I've ever owned. *by on Reviewed in the United States June 18, 2026* Had this iron for 8 years with absolutely zero issues. Probably the best iron I've ever owned. No water leaks, ample heat settings and great non-stick coating. I finally had to order a new one due to me dropping mine and it started leaking water. Wasn't leaking a lot, but enough to annoy me. That was totally my fault though and no blame on the manufacturer. Get this iron, you won't regret it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ High quality, great steam *by on Reviewed in the United States August 14, 2026* My parents have this iron, and I bought this because of how nice it was to use while visiting their house. I've had to buy a lot of irons due to moving over the years, I've had Panasonic and other mainstream brands. I had never heard of this brand, and bought it based off of my own experience. I didn't want to spend the money for is, but I've been able to iron more quickly than with some of the cheaper options i've owned in the past. ## Frequently Bought Together - CHI Steam Iron for Clothes with 8’ Retractable Cord, 1700 Watts, 3-Way Auto Shutoff, 400+ Holes, Professional Grade, Temperature Control Dial, Titanium Infused Ceramic Soleplate, Silver (13106) - Bartnelli Ironing Board Made in Europe | Iron Board with 4 Layered Cover & Pad, Height Adjustable up to 36" Features A Safety Iron Rest, 4 Steel Legs, for Home Laundry Room or Dorm Use (43x14) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sc/products/64926196-steam-iron-for-clothes-with-vertical-steam-burst-1700-watts](https://www.desertcart.sc/products/64926196-steam-iron-for-clothes-with-vertical-steam-burst-1700-watts) --- *Product available on Desertcart Seychelles* *Store origin: SC* *Last updated: 2026-10-19*
