My old ACER Travelmate Laptop was taking 15 Min to boot up - - likely the registry was full of Crapware and who knows what.Sure - I could have wiped the Old HDD and used that - - but who knows what info I would have lostOr how many more minutes of life I would have gotten out of a HDD that was already 10 years old.For $20 I get a NEW HDD, get to KEEP my OLD HDD, and rebuild the system on a new drive.I had all the old drivers and a Recovery copy of the OS, so this was a no-brainer to use a New HDD-Super easy to replace the old HDD with this identical replacementThe rebuild (yes - - I am a bit of a Geek) went smoothly, and the drivers installed without a hitchBoot time went from 15 minutes to about 2 to 3 min, and the ancient Travelmate with WinXP (one of microsnots best) was given New Life.

I was in a hurry and ordered this drive which, BUYER BEWARE, is not a contemporary standard SATA drive, but an old-style parallel ATA (PATA / IDE) drive. I didn't know they even made these anymore, and I was shocked to see what came in the mail. Utterly worthless for most purposes these days, unless you have old equipment that you want to keep running -- although there must be a ton of these old drives available used just waiting for anyone who needs this type of drive to pick up for probably pennies on the dollar compared to the (already fairly low) cost of a new one. I undoubtedly have a few of my own in some old electronic-junk storage drawer already that I would never use. I you want to buy this one brand new it will soon be available cheap!

I-can-not-be-lieve how great this drive is. It acts like Sata. I can't believe I wasted so much time trying to find a bigger hard drive, what with the ease of portable exterior drives nowadays if you need more space, its size (80 gb) is completely adequate. I was very pleasantly surprised when I installed it and then realized a second later that I shouldn't have been surprised -because every single Western Digital product I have ever purchased in the past has been absolutely exemplary!

Just what I was looking for - Brand new (new old stock) still in box, never used IDE / PATA Laptop drive for some old hardware I still have to keep running. It fits my old Dell D610 and Panasonic CF-27.

For only 20 bucks, worked great for upgrading a 30GB hard drive in an old iBook. It is surprising how well these old Macs still work when you use 3rd party browsers (tenfourfox).

It works fine on my old laptop which uses an ***IDE*** hard drive. The drive I received is BRAND NEW in a factory sealed anti-static bag with a silica gel desiccant.
