They roll around easily on hard floors
These portables sure are convenient for places where you only need them a month or two out of the year. And if you've got young ones or for older folks who don't do so well in heat, these are your ticket. They roll around easily on hard floors, much easier to setup than window units. Maybe not as efficient, but they make up for it in mobility.I've test run this 110WD both in a small bedroom and a medium sized living room. I've used it in both dual hose mode and with a single hose. It does seem to work better with dual hoses. At the time I ordered it was the lowest cost dual hose model. I am glad I spent the few extra dollars over some of the available single hose models. Overall its not so bad in cost. I mean btu for btu this 110WD was pretty much the same cost as a window unit! I did have a window unit years back, and portable prices were much higher back then. This 10k unit makes quick work on a smaller bedroom, but takes time to really feel cool in the larger living room. This goes along with what I was expecting. Good part is: even before you really feel cold with these things, you do feel better. They dry the air out, and that combined with a few degree drop really lets your sweat do its job rather than just sit on top of your skin.I should mention that you do NOT** have to drain the water from the 110WD. I think it only requires that on the dehumidify setting, not on the regular cooling setting. It blows the humidity outside through the hot air hose. I recommend leaving the "remote" attached to its perch to prevent loss of the remote. That is how I use it, and so far I've never needed to take it off of there. The 2nd thing, besides the slightly lower cost, that is nice about these 10 or 11k units versus some of the more powerful models is the headroom you have with amperage. On a 15 amp circuit you still have 5 amps left over for your TV or lights or whatever you want to power. You won't blow breakers like maybe a 12k or 14k unit would with multiple appliances. This may or may not be an issue.. I know with my old house and its wiring, it definitely is. For a newer house, or for a larger area I would go 14k.

Better than I expected.
I have used this for several days now and I'm quite happy. The unit is quieter than my last one and I can actually sleep in the same room with it. It's kind of a low rumble if the fan isn't on high. I used my Kill-A-Watt meter on it and it draws 9.2 amps max at 120 volts. The only problem I've had was that the remote doesn't seem to get the changes I make if it is anywhere but on the unit. Some functions work from 6' away but not the temperature changes and there doesn't seem to be any way to tell if it gets the input from the remote. I just leave the remote on top of the unit. It would be nice if it beeped when you made a change from the remote. The manual says it beeps but I haven't heard any beeps other than when I turn on the unit from the front panel. It's heavy but rolls nicely and the accessories (pipe & fittings) seem to be well though out. The whole unit seems solid and of quality. The two hose system is a vast improvement over the one pipe system I had before. It gets cold fast!

Leads the list of Portable Air Conditioner Units.
I wanted to start off by saying that this review is based solely on how this portable air conditioning unit rates in comparison to others I've own tried or returned. If this was a review on how well portable air conditioners cool in comparison to window units or central a/c then I'd rate this two stars at best. Let me explain further.Portable Air Conditioners should always be your absolutely last choice. IMO they are woefully inefficient because of the many different sections in which heat is allowed to come in/be transmitted. There is heat emanating from the slight gap in the connections, from the hose itself, and from all the little spots in the window. I've become somewhat of an expert in sealing off these heat points but it takes alot of work to get this accomplished. My choice for the window is NOT extending the connector board but rather using foam from Michael's or Hobby Lobby to seal the board itself and all around. I had a window unit in Kansas City prior to moving and just keeping the door close and running the a/c sporadically kept my entire room like an ice box and my electric bill was half of what it is now.So why rate this 4 stars in comparison to other portable air conditioners. Because believe it or not, most portable air conditioners i've owned have been worse than this one. IF <--- you have no choice but to purchase a portable air conditioner in lieu of not being able to either install a window unit or have central a/c, this model would be the perfect choice. Let me explain further.1). When the compressor comes on, it doesn't shake your room like a 4.4 magnitude earthquake. THis may NOT seem all that important when you're awake BUT when you're asleep, this is the absolute difference between getting a good night's sleep AND getting woken up 10 times a night. Why do I mention this? Well I've owned two units in which the compressor kicking on would startle me nearly to death everytime it came on.2). The unit itself blows VERY COLD AIR. the problem as mentioned above isn't with the unit itself but rather with the design of portable air conditioners. However, again if all you can buy is a portable air conditioner, then this one is much better at the Cold Air stuff than most of the other ones ive owned or returned. If you can face the outlets directly towards you then you'll have no problem feeling cool. It's when I'm standing 90 degrees from the air outlets or behind the unit is when I don't feel that cold air. Again simply a matter of design.3). Size- unit is not a monstrosity for it being 11,000 BTU. Ive owned a 10,000 unit single hose which was bigger and louder than this one. Unit is easy to move around. Not too heavy to carry in when you get it shipped.4). Evaporation- I live in a relatively dry climate in North-Central California BUT on occassion we get the higher than normal humidity. I haven't had to do much emptying of the unit. It Self- Evaporates pretty well. Again, Ive had other 'self-evaporative' units which I've had to empty out on a nightly basis. This is no such unit.5). Price- Sat on Amazon for awhile at 379.00. Then one day it went down to 289.00 and that's when I made the purchase. I thought that for everything I got for the unit, the price was absolutely AMAZING. After it dropped down taht one day, it sat at 414.00-449.00 for a long while on here after that and I don't know if i'd necessarily recommend at that price point. So if you can get it around 300.00 then I'd absolutely jump at that offer. So this 'PORTABLE' unit would be my recommendation. If it is my recommendation, then why NOT the full 5 stars? Well because I've had 1 unit that was better than this one and I consider that the gold standard. So why not recommend that one as the go to portable air conditioner? Because that one was a Danby Dual Hose 10,000 BTU and it's no longer made WHICH IS A SHAME. That unit was comparable to any window unit I've used and was the gold standard. However, having owned or returned about 8 different portable air conditioner models, I'd say the Danby was the outlier and this Whynter is more in line of what I would expect from a portable air conditioner (albeit at the very top).
