## Description

tesa’s success story starts with the unsuccessful development of an adhesive bandage. Paul C. Beiersdorf, a pharmacist, was at work on the bandage when Dr. Oscar Troplowitz took over the lab from the company’s founder in 1890. The bandage adhered excellently, but was irritating to skin. Troplowitz made a virtue of necessity and, in 1896, launched the first technical adhesive tape.
The brand name tesa goes back to the secretary Elsa Tesmer, who from April 1903 to the end of October 1908 worked as a clerk and head of the office for the Beiersdorf company in Hamburg. She created the brand name from the first two letters of her last name (Te-) and the last two letters of her first name (-sa).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work on freshly painted and delicate surfaces?**
A: I am not sure it would be on delicate surfaces. I found it didnt work that well on curves as the paper crinkled up as you bend it so i needed precise curves and so i went for the thin masking tape which is better for curves.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best wax for oak doors
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 5 November 2025*

The Finnish on my oak doors with two coats is amazing. Top quality product. Follow the instructions on the can and you will have a professional Finnish.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Curvy tape? Now I've seen it all.
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 14 July 2025*

A very unique masking tape type. I just love tape so much and this is one for the collection. Can't wait to try the pink stuff. You might think I'm joking. I am not. It comes off the wall easily after months of staying put, no residue. You can definitely make curves with it.

### ⭐ Does not stick!
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 14 February 2026*

Absolutely rubbish. This tape didn't seem to want to stick to the wall at all! Incredibly frustrating trying to apply it to the wall and really struggled to create a smooth curve due to it immediately peeling off no matter what we did! Also did not give the neat edge we were hoping for, we are now having to repaint the edges by hand...
