Review: Great kit, great company - This is my 2nd Nifeliz kit. I built the Big Boy first. Just like the Big Boy, no missing parts, no issues, no nothing. The instructions were terrific and the assembly could not have been any smoother. I have built block kits from multiple manufacturers and the Nifeliz kits are my favorite. I cannot wait to tear into more of them. You will not regret choosing one of these kits. Especially for the price.
Review: Better than name brand sets! Impressive quality. - Very impressive. Gift for my teenager who loves military stuff and building kits. Other non name-brand kits have been disappointing, but these are just like the real deal, well made, for together perfectly. Plus come in a much nicer box and instruction manual than the name brand. He asked me to help put it together, but my role is finding the pieces while he does all the actual assembly. Nice way to spend quality time with my teenage son! We're almost finished, have spent many enjoyable hours together on this. The quality is better and the price is much better, I already bought the steam train set for his birthday!

Review: Nifeliz Soviet 2S4 Tyulpan “Tulip” Self-Propelled Heavy Mortar Having built a number of box-on-a-box type tanks, I am always looking for something a bit out of the ordinary and a break from yet another Tiger. The 2S4 Tyulpan kit by Nifeliz is definitely something different, and having recently built Nifeliz’s M7 Priest—which is quite exquisite—I had high expectations for this model as well. Unfortunately, this one falls short in several areas. About the Subject Piece: The Tyulpan is a Soviet 240 mm self-propelled heavy mortar that entered service during the 1970s and remains in Russian service today. It is the largest-caliber mortar system currently in operational use. Developed during the Cold War for attacking hardened positions and fortifications, it was also capable of firing tactical nuclear ammunition. Its firing rate is approximately one round per minute with a conventional high-explosive projectile weighing approximately 130 kg (286 lb). Its firing range is 9.6 km, while rocket-assisted projectiles can reach approximately 20 km (12.4 miles). About the Kit: The kit consists of 1,438 pieces and comes well packaged in bags divided into relatively small groups of building steps. This is something Nifeliz does particularly well, as it minimizes the sheer number of pieces you need to sort through at any one time. The actual Tyulpan is approximately 26 feet long in travel configuration, while the completed model measures 13-1/2 inches, placing it roughly in the 1:24-scale range. No minifigures were included. Overall Rating: 4.1/5 This kit seems like it was right on the precipice of being great but ultimately falls short of expectations due to sparse interior detail, disproportionate mortar size, required modifications and difficulty is transitioning the mortar between the stowed and firing positions. Kit Completeness: 5/5 The kit was 100% complete and even included quite a few extra pieces—enough to make me thumb back through the instructions to see if I had missed a page. Kit Manufacturing Quality: 4.5/5 According to my research (i.e., I asked ChatGPT), Nifeliz does not appear to manufacture its own bricks, but the quality of the pieces used in this kit is quite good. Grip/clutch was consistently good and I encountered no noticeably deformed or flawed pieces. Design Quality/Robustness: 3.5/5 The overall design is functional, but several details are minimally secured or easily dislodged. The completed model displays well but should be handled carefully. Unfortunately, moving the mortar from its travel position into the firing position is virtually impossible without some portion of the mortar or base assembly disassembling itself. Considering that the movement of the massive mortar is one of the defining features of the actual vehicle, it would have been nice to easily transition between the stowed and firing configurations. The forward glacis is particularly awkward and requires a significant amount of fiddling—and sometimes removing and replacing adjacent tiles—to get it to sit correctly. The biggest negative for me, however, was the road wheels. They have internal ribs that interfere with the track and prevent the wheels from rotating freely. Ultimately I ended up cutting out the ribs in order to get the chassis to roll smoothly, but feel like it shouldn’t require modifying parts to achieve a basic function. Instructions Quality: 4/5 I really like the completeness of Nifeliz’s instruction manuals. They include some history about the subject as well as several historical photographs and well as photos of the completed model from different angles and close-ups of various details. What kept this from receiving a higher score was the instruction diagrams themselves. The dark gray color of the model is reflected in dark gray assembly diagrams which obscures some of the illustrated detail, making it difficult—and on a few steps almost impossible—to discern exactly how certain parts are intended to fit. Model Detail: 3.5/5 Being somewhat larger than the common 1:28 scale, the model provides a substantial amount of internal volume that could have been used for additional detail, but much of that opportunity was missed. Inside the spacious rear hull cavity is an awkward cylindrical assembly intended to represent the Tyulpan’s ammunition magazine but is not immediately recognizable as such. The comically oversized mortar round mounted on the side of the rear compartment further throws off the proportions of the interior details. The rear upper hull section is easily removable to expose the magazine area, but unfortunately there is not much else inside worth revealing beyond the awkward magazine cylinder. The mid and forward sections are better detailed, with representations of the driver’s station and engine, but neither is readily accessible and the opening hatches provide only a limited glimpse inside. The forward glacis is not actually secured in place and essentially nests into position. Unfortunately, removing and reinstalling it is difficult without disturbing adjacent pieces. The externally mounted machine gun is awkwardly attached to a single post and feels almost like an afterthought. Ironically, the driver’s seat is mounted on a turntable so it can pivot—which seemingly would have been better utilized for the machine-gun mount. Historical Accuracy/Realism: 4/5 The overall form of the model is readily recognizable as a 2S4 Tyulpan and the basic exterior profile is quite good. However, the diameter of the mortar tube and size of the mortar baseplate are noticeably disproportionate. There are also several features and embellishments along the sides of the hull that do not correspond well with the relatively clean exterior of the actual vehicle. Subjective “Wow!” Factor: 4/5 This is a tough category because I had high expectations and the model came close to being something exceptional—but just never quite got there. I like the unusual subject matter, and the enormous mortar immediately separates it from the more conventional tanks and armored vehicles in a collection. However, the lack of readily articulable movement of the mortar, required modification of the road wheels, sparse interior detail, and several awkward exterior embellishments leave me wanting more. That said, it does stands out among the other vehicles in my motor pool, and its uniqueness catches your attention immediately.
