Absolutes
I love these speakers so much that I bought another set five years after my first set. The original set still works and am going to have my daughter set them up with their laptop. What is different with these is there isn't really an on/off switch like my old ones. My older ones had a push in equals ON , push out equals OFF. There is a green indicator light when you turn the master gain to about seven O clock to let you know that they are indeed on.I don't like the newer knobs because the don't have a dot like my old ones to let you know where Half-way is. My older set you had to connect the positive an negative wires to the back of the sub-woofer if I recall correctly. These were a breeze to set-up. Very straight forward can tell they actually came up with some better design feature to increase the functionality of the product. The sound is amazing all the way around. Hey for some speakers for computer or an additional device I would recommend these immediately since I own two sets now. My Ex-wife has the other pair and they still work. My neighbors used to ask me to try and keep it down between certain hours due to the Bass.Anyways I would think some type of Equalization type circuit with adjustor would be a dream I would have about these , but might try some software to get the exact sound I want.Overall I am very happy so far , just hope nothing goes wrong with these.

GREAT SOUND!
These speakers have been around for a while and have been discontinued, but they are worth searching for. I had pretty much narrowed down my choices and had decided on a pair of Logitech Z623, which I consider to be one of the better of the new crop of speakers. I spotted a pair of these Altecs on here and, being a big Altec fan, I ordered them. They are head and shoulders above anything on the market today! The highs are open and spacious, the mid-range clear and accurate, and the lows are never muddy; in short, they are sonically accurate. I can listen to them all day with no audio fatigue. If you can find a pair, buy them, you won't be disappointed.

Absolute best speakers, don't buy them from the same seller I did.
These are the absolute best speakers for your computer... however, the seller did a TERRIBLE job packing them and they arrived (and returned) broken.

Good for games, so-so for music
I bought these for listening to music and have been disappointed since I first heard them. They make pretty decent game speakers because they handle decent volume without too much distortion, but the sound is too odd for good music speakers. The downward facing midrange speakers make for very uneven sound in the midrange with pronounced peaks around 2kHz (imagine talking into cupped hands). The treble from the 4 drivers is fine; the bass tends towards slight boominess aggravated by a too-high crossover point on the bass control. It seems that the design of these speakers was motivated more by looks than by good sound.

What I didn't know until now with a smart plug. It draws 0.06A power off!!! $$
After so many years of owning this and using this speak system, it's quite amazing how "little" Watts it outputs vs the actual bass sound it created. It's not ultra deep like 20hz, but it's fairly enough for a room or when you are sitting next to your PC. Thus a PC speaker system. However, I finally hooked it up with a smart plug and trying to figure out where 7W was keep drawing from my outlet and once I unplugged this ATP 3. It removed that 7W, 0.06A draw!!! While it was OFF!!!! P=VI I = P/V. 7W/120V = 0.058A. 7W x24h = 168wH /day x365- 61320 Wh / year. = 62kWh /year. If electricity rate is $0.40/kwh x 62kwh ~ $25 per year to nothing. Of course rate is not that easy to calculate, but adding all peak/offpeak. I could have lost hundreds of dollars to a thousand over the course of 10 years of pluggin it in while it's off. So for those of you who own this, please do your research about the power drawn while OFF. It's not even stand by.
