Works well.
Sturdy and easy to use. The foil cutter in the top is a nice idea, and also works well - it will be difficult to misplace it too. Deals with diadem corks well. I have yet to use it on old corks.

removes cork effortlessly!
For years of opening about two to three bottles of wine a week, my Zyliss corkscrew finally broke. I got my money's worth out of it, so I had no problem dishing out another $25 for a new one. However, in searching the internet high and low, I not only found that it was discontinued for some strange reason, but that it was pretty much extinct. I'd come across a cheaper version of it made by Faberware, but that thing broke the second time I used it. However, when searching for the Zyliss, I noticed the Oxo Steel Corkscrew would infrequently come up in search results, and I'd read from Amazon customer reviews that it's very similar to the Zyliss, so I bought one here on Amazon a couple of months ago. I'd say those reviews are correct, very much in the way the Zyliss works, as well as how well it works. In fact, the Oxo works even better than the Zyliss, as the cork comes out of the bottle even more smoothly and effortlessly. Also, it's partly a foil cutter, which my Zyliss wasn't. The foil cutter also works great, but it only removes the top of the foil, and I usually like to remove the entire foil with a box cutter. I'm surprised by the reviewer who said his broke within seven months, because the Oxo seems VERY solidly built. I've only had mine for a couple of months, so I'm curious to know how common that is, but this is at least the easiest corkscrew to use that I've ever owned.**********Update - 1/4/12:I've owned this thing for exactly one year now, and it's still going strong. There ARE occasions when it's slightly difficult to remove hard rubber corks, but I'm always able to grab them with my fingers through the side slots and back the screw out. At any rate, if you drink a lot of wine, you'll know there are a variety of neck thicknesses and cork materials, so you'll know that although the oxo will be your most commonly used corksrew, you'll still need to keep two or three other types on hand.

Great for travel or home
I drink wine every day, having grown up in the wine country. I have tried numerous types of openers, but this style works the best, every time. This one is special in that it has an on-board foil cutter, so I use this one on trips and for events outside the home. Unlike the rabbit-style, I've never had a problem with the cork getting pushed in. The rabbit-style also has problems with the corkscrew itself, and other parts of the mechanism. Yes, it requires some wrist action, but it is not difficult and most importantly, it works every time. I used to travel with a separate foil cutter, but no need for that since this one has a foil cutter incorporated into the handle, easily removable when you need it. This is simple and effective. I only broke this type of opener once, when I didn't realize the previous cork had not been removed before I used it again. The turning handle on this is comfortable to use.
