In both cases it worked seamlessly. Two things to try: (1) make sure the USB cable does support data. I tried another USB cable which did not work. I checked with a multi-meter that it only connected the USB power. (2) Check Windows Control Panel and see if there is anything amiss. And make sure the audio 3.5 mm plug is not inserted in the board when you attempt the USB connectivity. When the data link to the PC is successful 'USB' is displayed in the display panel.
