It's smaller than a messenger bag, but it's still large enough to hold all of the things I need throughout the day including a small journal, medication, bottles of water, pens, wallet, phone, and sunglasses. It's just tall and wide enough to hold a single standard notebook (10.5 in x 8 in), but an executive notebook (6 in x 8.8 in) fits comfortably. It's constructed well and made out of sturdy canvas. The detailing, like the brown front strap and patch with the brand name, are made of nice, soft leather. It doesn't close with the buckle, but rather with a magnetic snap under the front flap. The main body of the bag is closed with a zipper, so your items will not spill out of it if the bag is turned upside down. There is a nice sized zipper pocket on the back of the bag, where it would be up against your body. I opt to keep my wallet in this pocket since it's easier to get it out of there than having to flip the front panel up and unzip the main bag. I wear this as a crossbody bag, so when I'm walking around the back pocket is always pressed up against my body. I originally ordered it to put pins on it, but the canvas is so thick that it can only my nice enamel pins will go through. This isn't a huge problem, though.
