Rubber heel and sole are solid and quite thick. Rubber on main body of boots is softer. Like a lot of wellingtons thy don't come with an inset to maintain shape of boot so there is a crease(like trousers - toe to heal direction). Shape should return to normal after a bit of wear. Size is pretty good. I'm normally a 7.5 fitting but from experience i ordered a 6.5 - I find wellingtons to be a size bigger. Only other comment I would make is that they are quite narrow - I've and average calf size and they're quite snug. I wak 3 dogs around fields twice a day so I've recently been out wearing these boots in rain, mud, snow and waterlogged conditions. Over the years I've purchased more expensive boots but for me these Dunlops overall are pretty good for my needs at a budget price .
