It was on surge protection. Never fell or was tipped over. Checked power adapter and it was ok. So if you need RELIABLE (more than one year storage) look elsewhere. As to warranty service a claim was filed and i did receive a response back from Seagate. UPDATE : Seagate replaced the drive. So it is worth your time to contact their customer service and follow the RMA process.
