MENTALIST HOLMES-EPISODES 1THR 3
As a relatively new MENTALIST fan after wetting my interests with the BONES & CASTLE series and seeing a couple of the MENTALIST episodes, Iimmediately ordered all available DVD sets plus signed onto the Video library so I could see everything available. From AMAZON of course. The MENTALIST does follow some of the similar story and humor lines, and there is some mush for those of us who like that (and I do!!)but it does haveits own inventiveness too. I find Robin Tunny as adorable and admirable as Deschanel (both sisters) and Stana Katic (?) and I hope she gets morethan just chummy later on with Jane. Good chemistry, humor, likability and interesting criminal stories make this series up there with the verybest TV series. One good thing: no obnoxious characters with the main cast of players. No one like the idiot Dr Lance Sweets also known as theJar Jar Binn of BONES or any arrogant moochers like Mother Martha on Castle. Thank you very much MENTALIST producers!! I also like the on again, off again, on again relationships of Van Pelt (very hot!) and Rigby, a big lovable teddy bear when not chasing downlowlives. And they finally got married..Hurray!! Now it is Lisbons turn. No one as cute as she is should be single very long. Come on Jane, catch Red John and then sweep the CUTE ONE off her feet: I think she does like him a lot! But what happens after Red John is gone? The Red John thing seems to be the main reason for the whole series; of course there are plenty ofhis followers around that may seek revenge. In an interview Robin Tunny said she would like the series to continue afterwards and the creatorsaid he would like at least one more season after the 6th. When Booth finally did in Pelant (a kind Red John maniac) Pelant said before he waskilled there is another serial killer (a woman) out there to take his place. Keep on truckin' bad guys. I called this review MENTALIST HOLMES because being a Sherlock Holmes fan (Jeremy Brett being the most accurate portrayal) I am amazed how similarJane and Holmes observe and analyze crime scenes. Simplicity my dear MENTALIST fans! Note: I got all my Jeremy Brett DVDS from AMAZON!Holmes never drove around in the worlds most ugly ass car, However!! I want to add additional thoughts to this 6th season. The first part was initially written early in the season before Red John was wasted.I did not initially like switching Patrick and Lisbon to the FBI but now think it was a great idea because it gives them more flexibility infighting crime: they can go all over the country though Texas is fine too. But it looked as if they (the producers) were going to pare Lisbonand Jane with different partners..NO, NO, NO!!!! They belong together with the great chemistry they have; maybe even get married later. Bonesand Booth did and so are Beckett and Castle..eventually. But they are just fun to watch..and bicker occasionally. But perhaps with a change ofheart and getting heat from the MENTALIST fans they seemed to have retreated back to the best format. Imagine having Bones partnered with thatidiot Dr Sweets..yuk! Imagine them getting married...DOUBLE YUK!! I would have dumped the show. Anyway, I am now happy with the setup andam anxious to see how Jane and Lisbons relationship develops. And of course I ordered the DVD 6th season from Amazon though I wish Warner Broswould release it sooner. But I do have all the episodes on my Amazon Video Library. A little Holmes and a little mush just suits me fine. Butleave that crappy Frenchy car in the junk car. Enjoy; I certainly recommend this season.

Modernized and complex finally
Retains some of the old Mentalist characteristics and depends upon formula, but it has a fresh and refreshing mode of entertainment. "Bingeable".

Simon Baker’s smile lights up the world like sunshine
I love The Mentalist so much. I’ve watched the entire series many times over and it never gets old or boring. I adore Simon Baker as an actor and he brings incredible charisma, charm, and humanity to all of his characters, but especially to Patrick Jane. And let’s face it, the man is beautiful! When he smiles, it’s like he’s glowing and he lights up everything around him like a glorious ray of sunshine. Seriously, I love him beyond all reason and my only complaint about The Mentalist is that the writers could have given him some Captain Kirk moments where he inexplicably loses his shirt because he can. (Helpful tip - before The Mentalist, Simon Baker starred in The Guardian, a legal drama, and you can see inklings of Patrick Jane in Nick Fallin, but more importantly, Nick Fallin likes to swim in a speedo!).And just so you know, The Mentalist isn’t one of my favorite shows just because of Simon Baker. It is a great show in its own right with a strong cast (tons of familiar faces in guest appearances, too) and excellent storytelling. The overarching “Red John” storyline is compelling, especially when you realize they’ve been dropping clues since the beginning and you start tying those clues together. When you finish the series, go back and re-watch it and you’ll catch more every time.Malcolm McDowell plays a fantastic recurring character throughout the series as a self-enlightenment guru/cult leader. He’s such a talented actor to be able to traumatize me with A Clockwork Orange and Cat People... and I basically despised him after Star Trek: Generations (because if you’ve seen it, you know what he did and on the off chance you haven’t seen it but plan to, I won’t post a spoiler here, but rest assured that he played a very bad man who did a very bad thing...) and then after all that, to be able to make me love him again as Bret Stiles in The Mentalist (or as Maestro Thomas Pembridge in Mozart in the Jungle). My favorite recurring character is Walter Mashburn, played by Currie Graham, another excellent actor I had held in contempt for his character on NYPD Blue. The scenes with Walter Mashburn are some of the most delightful moments in The Mentalist as his playboy billionaire social disconnect lands him in awkward, often comical situations when he tries to interact with the members of the CBI team, particularly Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) who appears unimpressed by his money and flashy cars. Patrick Jane, on the hand, delights in Walter’s extravagance and together, they make quite the dynamic duo.The Mentalist will make you laugh and cry and hold you in suspense and and delight you and reward you. You will cherish the characters for their genuine humanity and compelling backstories and find yourself effortlessly consumed by the plot. I highly recommend this unique and engaging crime drama to anyone over 13 (I would consider The Mentalist to be PG-13 most of the time, but certain episodes and storylines have intense and/or disturbing elements that are definitely not suitable for kids and might verge on R, depending on your tolerance for such things).

Must see
I watch very little TV but this ten yr old series has become one of my favorites. I'm rationing the episodes because I don't want it to end. Fortunately it went through seven seasons and I've bought them all. It's an ensemble cast, character development gets richer every season, and the writing and direction keeps pace. I've seen both The lead characters in other roles and these were both roles of a lifetime. Can't recommend all seasons highly enough.

A Great Show that's worth the splurge!
I always love the show so having it and being able to re-watch some episodes is great. The case of 1st season came broken which is the big disappointment. Other cases held up. Season 6 is not as good as other seasons due to a big let down of Red John. When his true identity was exposed, it was inconsistent with the character portrayed in earlier episodes (like the guy was corks, always one step ahead of Patrick, cruel and ruthless) but he turned out to be a wimp. Overall, still enjoyed the show.

Satisfaction guaranteed
After all these years, the riddle is answered and Red John has been exposed and removed. What will Patrick do with his new life? Fortunately, the writers and cast and crew have lots of good ideas left. New characters are introduced, some old characters leave, but this set of programs provides the mysteries, the thrills, the humour, and the human interest we've come to expect from The Mentalist. And it concludes with the best TV kiss of all time - beautiful, believable, loving! Can't wait for the next season.

I was away for season 6 so really enjoyed how the season played out when I got to watch the dvd series... even if the concussion bomb scenario was a little unbelievable... the move onto the FBI was brilliant... opening a whole new array of crimes to be solved. New characters are excellent : )
