Looks good but works poorly
The whole idea of a honing guide is to make it easier to maintain an angle for people who don't have time to practice and develop the muscle memory to sharpen blades freehand. I've used a handful of honing guides with varying levels of success. It seems that most guides are good for either chisels or plane irons but rarely have I found anything that is great for both.I had high hopes for this guide but it has a couple of pretty glaring flaws.1. It's way too big front to back which makes it nearly impossible to sharpen chisels unless they have an extremely long blade.2. The body of the guide isn't square to the roller. When I first started to use the guide I took the time to create an angle guide that I could use to set my blades in the guide. Once that was done I went to town on my cheap chisels... never try a new tool on your good stuff. At any rate, I made sure that the chisel was right in line with the squaring lines on the body but after just a few strokes realized that I had ground my edge unevenly. My chisel was immediately out of square. After a few attempts and realizing that things were only getting worse, I decided to use a square in order to ensure that my chisel was square to the body... Unfortunately the chisel continued to get worse and out of square. Finally, after much tweaking, testing and adjusting, I realized that the body wasn't at all square to the roller which makes the lines WORTHLESS and using a square to set the blade is also worthless. There is one redeeming factor...the roller is nice and wide so it's does a good job of not rocking. For the money... NOT WORTH IT. I'd send it back if I could. I'll likely cut the back of the guide to make room for my chisels. I'll also likely have to grind the face of the body in order to square it to the roller....after I spend all that time working on that I'll likely just throw it away.

Okay, but of limited use
I bought this honing guide for sharpening chisels and plane irons. It's fine for plane irons, although not too convenient to use because there's nothing to hold an iron exactly square in the guide (other than lots of trial and error, checking with a machinists square). But my chisels don't fit at all: The blade can't be set far enough "out" to reach the required bevel angle (25 degrees or 30 degrees), because the chisel handle bumps up against the protruding rear side of the honing guide (= all that aluminum that looks like a "shelf" but serves no obvious function I can see). Amazingly, this was true even of the Narex chisels I bought at the same time I bought the honing guide -- apparently Narex sells a honing guide that doesn't even fit its own chisels! I was able to "fix" that -- for the Narex chisels -- by taking a hacksaw to the honing guide and removing its rear one-third (approximately). But there's no way I can use this guide (or modify further) to sharpen my old Craftsman chisels, which are somewhat shorter. Given the high price, it's a real disappointment.

A good honing guide
Shipping was only 12 days to the USA/Kansas so I was pretty happy about that. This guide does a good job and I’m pretty pleased with it. Just used it on chisels so far but it is easy to align and use. I look forward to sharpening plane irons with it and will edit this review when I do.Quality is good and for the price including shipping I would say it’s a good deal.

Bad design
Piece of junk, don't buy it. You are better off with the £5 honing guides or save up and get a veritas one.
