Review: A very good small passive speaker for a two-channel system or for surround sound. - Small, inexpensive two-way bookshelf speakers that perform well have become an endangered species. To be sure there are many excellent bookshelf speakers with a starting price of almost $200 USD (per pair) but the selection of passive speakers priced well under $100 USD per pair is getting pretty sparse. I am excluding small powered loudspeakers. The Saiyin passive bookshelf speakers (Model DS6700M) perform well above their bargain price point. The in-room frequency response of the Saiyin speaker is remarkably flat from 80Hz up to 4kHz with audible (but not room shaking) bass output down to ~60Hz. Above 4kHz the frequency response of the silk tweeter rises well above the midrange level. By applying some equalization or room correction, effectively taming this rise, the Saiyin speakers can compete with speakers costing 3X times as much. For reference I am listening at 6 feet from the Saiyin speakers. The speakers are just below ear level and 6 to 16 inches from rear boundary (window). Source: Spotify Premium, WiiM Ultra (with room correction enabled), Aiyima A07 Max (stereo mode) amplifier. Typical SPL ~74dBA, not exceeding 80dBA. I have purchased 4 pair of the Saiyin speakers (some as gifts). I break in a new pair of the Saiyin speakers by letting them play music for a week or two before I judge the quality of sound from each speaker. I estimate 40 hours of play for breaking in each new pair of the Saiyin speakers. The good: Good soundstage and imaging. Good reproduction of male and female vocals, instruments. Solid bass performance from ~60Hz, to well beyond my range of hearing. At low, moderate listening levels the Saiyin DS6700M speaker plays right along side loudspeakers costing thousands without embarrassing itself. A 4 ohm rated speaker, the Saiyin DS6700M pairs well with two-channel stereo Class D amplifiers including the Fosi Audio TB10D, Douk Audio A5 and Aiyima A07 Max. The limitations: Usable bass response extends only to ~60Hz, not lower. Unless you already have a subwoofer, given the low price of a pair of the Saiyin speakers the cost of adding a decent subwoofer may not be justified. Efficiency is not stated or measured, appears to be average to slightly below average. The 4 ohm impedance enables Class D amplifiers to deliver maximum power. The speakers weighs in at ~3 lbs each. The speaker cabinet walls are not especially thick or braced so there are definitely cabinet resonances that I did not find to be audible in listening. The frequency response tilts upward. This can be mitigated with the use of tone controls or equalization. If you use a WiiM music streamer or amplifier the WiiM RoomFit room correction feature really helps level the response and smooth out any frequency response anomalies. You can hang the Saiyin speakers on a wall (mounting brackets and hardware are provided) but being a rear ported design the Saiyin speakers benefit from being placed some distance from the rear wall for best results. The Saiyin speakers come with spring loaded speaker wire terminals, expected at this price point. I suggest 18 gauge; bare wire or tinned leads, not larger wire. Note: The Saiyin speakers are designed for indoor use only, not for use in a damp or wet environment. Best Application: desktop, home office, den, bedroom, kitchen, workbench and dorm room. Each Saiyin speaker is limited in power handling (30 Watts) and an acoustic output of perhaps ~80dBA maximum. The Saiyin speakers are not the speakers to choose as the main front or center channel speakers in a large home theater system (except as surround channel speakers). In a secondary home theater system where listening levels will be kept to below ~80dBA these Saiyin speakers would definitely work. In comparison with a well known small vintage mini loudspeaker, the Realistic Minimus 7, the Saiyin DS6700M speaker sounds more natural and is non-fatiguing. Every time I have auditioned a pair of the Minimus 7 speakers in my home system my brain quickly rejects the sound as unnatural, with something critical missing from the music. In contrast, I can listen to the Saiyin DS6700M speakers for long periods without any listening fatigue. That says a lot about the potential of the Saiyin speakers. Note: The Saiyin speaker has approximately the same dimensions as the 7W, the MDF constructed version of the Minimus 7 speaker. I measured the Saiyin DS6700M speaker as being 8-1/4 inches in height (including the provided rubber feet), 5-1/8 inches in width and 5-7/8 inches in depth (6-3/8" if you include the grill, 6-5/8" including the grill and the rear wall mount bracket.) I believe that the secret to why the Saiyin DS6700M speaker sounds so good is the 3.5 inch woofer/midrange driver. This driver covers more than 7 octaves (from 60Hz up to just above ~4kHz), before the speaker crosses over to the silk tweeter. There is no crossover in the midrange region to introduce any unwanted crossover distortion or frequency response variations in the critical midrange frequencies as with most two-way speaker designs. Pair up these Saiyin speakers with one of the WiiM music streaming devices and a stereo Class D amplifier (all sold on desertcart) to put together an excellent sounding, small two-channel system.
Review: A few inexpensive mods make a huge difference.. - What's to say about $30 speakers. I will say out of the box they were, Meh. But again $30. I listened first on my old school Acoustic Authority PC system, and after a short try I decided it was time to open them up. Now first off, I have some Audio background, so those reading this will know just what I did. One the box's are just a medium density, at best particle board. Inside there was no damping material, nada. The woofer has a decent magnet and the tweeter seems to have a neo mag on it. No Xover on the woofer and a 6db on the tweeter. and BTW they supply a laughable chunk of foam to plug the rear port, just in case the bass is to much... That said, first thing that I did was add some butyl rubber damping mat to the sides a small piece on the back and a small piece on the top, that is easy to find cheap here and I used a 1sqft piece for both. Next I went to that wally world and bought a $3 fiber fill pillow. Now this part is important, as you want to use only about a 3cu.in. chunk to go just behind the woofer, not stuffed but loose. DO NOT go past the port... Carefully put the speaker back in and remember to back twist the screws so the follow they original threads, you may have to remove both the woofer and tweeter. Now how I tested them and, yes broke them in. I saw a review here where someone said their 25 watt Technics receiver made the woofers "bottom out" Now your mileage may vary, but I hooked them to my NAD 2200, it has been tested to 345 watts per channel.. I could not EVER hit that power, but ran it up to close to max excursion for the woofer for about 3 hours of solid music... Now an amplifier like that will control any speaker very well with the damping factor, hence why I said your mileage will vary. But even with out doing that torture test, the sound quality of these little things, got a massive gain in how they sound. In the end, would I recommend them? for basic use yes. But with the very inexpensive bit I did to them, and for only $30 I would say yes more than worth the price. And, hey again$30 so who really cared if you void the warranty.. It is well worth is.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Speakers for the Price!
*by A***L on August 26, 2026*

After 10 months of ownership, I can't state how happy I am with these speakers. I held off to making a review because I have always used typical Best Buy PC speakers that crackle and pop while turning the volume knob after a year or so. These have exceeded my expectations by far. They sound super clean and loud enough for a Desktop set. They're not too big or too small. You can use almost any AMP/DAC with speaker wires in the market so comparability shouldn't be an issue.
