Great (for what I use it for)
I'm very impressed with this little unit. I use it on logs before we mill them in a portable band saw. The first time I got it out, we found a nail. My sawyer friend saved a blade and I saved myself $25 (his charge for hitting a nail). The rest of the logs we were sawing had no nails, and the unit didn't give any false positives.I have two friends who like to mess with reclaimed lumber. Both borrowed my new toy and both loved it. I bet I made a few sales for the company!!My ONLY complaint, and I don't know if there is much you can do about it, is that, with such a large wand, pinpointing the exact location of a nail isn't super easy. The signal goes off, but if the nail is obscured, its a little tough to figure out where the nail is. That might be the same way with any detector, I don't know, I don't have much to compare it to. However, with a little patience, I figured out how to minimize the area I had to gouge out to find the nail. One of those friends said he found a nail over an inch deep! From my research, it seemed like this unit was also a few bucks cheaper than comparable units, too.

does the work
This Handy Man Nail Finder does what it's suppose to, alerts you to nails or metal in a piece of wood. You do have to do your testing on an area away from nails. My husband was checking for nails in a plank that we pulled nails from and I noticed it was alerting but that's because he was purposely holding down near the deck upon which the plank was resting. He was making sure the nail finder was actually working by putting it near the area he knew had nails (the deck). We just couldn't trust it to be accurate and that it was indeed working but it certainly was because he sawed the plank and found no nails where he tested.

Works well, maybe cheap quality
It sounds like a dying animal and feels kind of cheap, but it works really well. It picked up a 1/4" piece of a brad nail buried in a board, as well as huge sinker nails overgrown with thick bark.

Not worth 80$
I bought this to find metal in reclaimed wood. It "sorta" works. Problem is, if you move it fast, it false detects. You can only move this over the wood at a rate which takes about a minute to scan an 8 foot board. And useless for finding nails that you drop in the grass.

This is a great device!
I used this to remove nails from over 1600 square feet of long leaf pine flooring recovered for an old hotel prior to running through my planer. Vibrate mode great when in noisy area.

Works excellent!
I reclaim a lot of wood for my home shop that I make furniture out of. Much of it has hidden bits of metal that tear chunks out of my jointer and thickness planer. Of the many I have owned, this one is by far the best of them!

needed for wood project
This stuff works as advertised. I removed old nails from 100 years old barn wood.
