You must season it first and the instructions are in broken English and Spanish, as it is produced in Mexico. You put warm H2O in pot overnight to soak before using to cook. You can also make soup and other one dish meals in it. It doesn't leave any metallic taste to the beans, as do metal pots. We will probably order the smaller size to use for just the 2 of us, for everyday. Would make a great gift for someone who cooks beans and soups. It is also very pretty and decorative.
