I’m going to be taking this for my melancholia, extracting with just water as an herbal tea. I’m adding it to my daily Yerba infusion. I already feel different after just one steep. Feeling less anxious. I definitely feel different than normal. The literature I’ve found seems to agree that the whole plant above the roots are efficacious for melancholia. The flowers are better for making topical ointments, but since I’m steeping it as a herbal tea, this mix is good enough for me. I was concerned that a water steep wouldn’t be enough to extract the active hydrophobic compounds but it seems good to me! Some literature seems to indicate that there are other compounds in the plant that enable better solubility of the active compounds, so I think a whole plant steep is better than an extract. I made mine with a 5:1 liquid to herb ratio. For the liquid use both filtered water and grain alcohol 190 proof with a 50/50 mix of water to alcohol. Has a nice flavor. Great value for money. I am surprised that it is supposed to relieve pain, but it is possible: once one is relaxed, it sure would be less pain. I don't use it on it's own. I mix it with other herbs, like Thyme, Lemon Grass, Lavender, Mint... It is an awesome recipe from my elders.
