The idea is that you can wear it multiple times, it can be washed, but eventually it's going to get bodily fluids and/or something toxic spilled on it, and it'll have to go in the biohazard waste bin. Thus the cheap price point and the polyester/cotton blend fabric. If you want a higher quality lab coat, look for something that's a cotton/nylon blend, or even 100% cotton. That being said, this is a good lab coat for the money, and the sizing is accurate for American standards.
