The bag has just enough padding, an outside compartment to store your 17" maybe 19" laptop so you have plenty of room inside to store whatever you need. There are also outside pockets: 6" zipper on top of bag, great place for keys, wallet and phone; side pockets with zippers as well as outside slit pockets. There is an extra zipper on the bottom of the bag that I discovered and it extends the bag if you really need to store more stuff. Even with all the storage, it doesn't look huge. You can fill it up for a flight or just throw a few things and off to the park...it's great for any occasion. I use the bag for my massage business so I use it all day and it still feels comfortable by the end of my day. I have no complaints and I highly recommend this bag.
