Review: A must have for your kids! - Always been a fan of Tim Bird. They are not easily available in India (though they are easily available in quite a few european countries), I had one as a kid and wanted my son to experience one as well. What's unique about the bird (apart from the cheer and fascination it brings in Children's eyes) is the ease with which you can explain mechanics of flying (and help your kids pronounce ornithopters). A design originally adapted from Leonardo Da Vinci, its a welcome change from the remote control toys that kids play with today! Learning with fun can't get better!!
Review: Hopeless toy ..waste of money... - Hopeless toy dont ever buy.. its very fragil and dont even fly...there is no retun policy

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the name for a large group of these? Ie. flight, flock, siege, muster, murder, murmutation?**
A: I’m going to go with a pandemonium. That’s apparently the name for a group of parrots and it sounds impressive.

**Q: Has anyone tried this indoors? I want to use it as a cat toy.**
A: It needs more space than a room really allows and flies in a very unpredictably path. It also makes a good deal of noise flapping its wings. Even the miniature version, Timmy Bird, probably flies too far for indoor use. Maybe you should try an indoor boomerang, instead, although I think a cat could easily take one of those apart.

**Q: Where do I get replacement rubber bands for it?**
A: Any local hobby store that sells balsa airplane kits or search for “balsa flying airplane kits” online. There are an amazing number of dealers and they all sell rubber “motors” in various widths. Valuable expert tip: lubricate the rubber lightly with a silicone like armor all. The motor will last much longer without breaking.

**Q: How hard is it to convert the tim bird to an rc ornithopter?**
A: IMO - It would be Impossible for several reasons:
- The tail is friction fitted (you set before flight) so you would never be able to get a servo to properly make adjustments during flight to steer.
- The body is basically a thin, plastic tube and I doubt it would survive the torque of the engine when driving gears
- There is not a way to build in flaps or independently control the wing angles in this design.

Hopeless toy dont ever buy.. its very fragil and dont even fly...there is no retun policy

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Favorite Toy of Mine as a Kid, Seemingly Totally Unchanged Over a Decade Later
*by N***. on 12 October 2024*

15 years ago or so, I had one of these as a kid. I was recently birthday shopping for a nephew of mine, and wondered if they still made these. To my surprise, not only are ornithopters still made, but this seems 100% identical to the one I had as a kid, even down to the packaging. I guess if it isn't broke, don't fix it. After spending an afternoon flying it around, our little bird made several crash landings, and was totally fine. My only complaint is the tail seems a bit flimsy, particularly in the hinge where you angle it. Overall I think most any kid will have a fun time playing with this thing, and its much cheaper than a drone or RC plane.
