When I first saw the GSI Pivot series utensils, I thought they were kind of silly. They didn't weigh much less than their standard, non-folding counterparts -- plus, they were much more costly than what I could buy at the dollar store.However, as I do a lot of solo camping, I am always looking for ways to streamline my gear. Because the Pivot Utensils folded in half, they would fit neatly in my cooking kit. So I started out by buying the Pivot Spatula and Pivot Tongs and thinking that I could make do without the spoon, since I already had a spoon I used for eating in my kit. But then -- true story -- I found myself hard boiling eggs for a hike with no easy way to pull the eggs out of the water. So I rethought my position on the spoon and ordered it.Despite the fact that it's lightweight and foldable, the Pivot Spoon is surprisingly sturdy once extended and holds up well to heat (although I wouldn't leave it sitting in a pot while cooking). It's easy to clean and packs down relatively small. And it's nice to have a larger spoon on hand for cooking.

The spoon functions well. It's a bit on the small side, but that's a good thing for the pack. The locking and folding mechanism is strong molded plastic and I'm assuming it'll last for a quite a while. Happy with the purchase!

It's a plastic folding ladle. It meets your expectations.In hindsight I might have just taken the size of a standard one and called it a day.If you're backpacking it's fine. If you're camping honestly just do a standard set.

Have all 3 pieces of the GSI folding utensils and love them for what they are, good quality an compact!

Keep in mind this is plastic (nylon?) and it’s hinged so don’t expect it to outperform a solid metal spoon. It bends a bit but no more than I’d expect it to. The hinge is an ok design and works way better than the absurdly ridiculous hinge on the gsi tongs. I have 2 of these and I use one in my home kitchen. It’s the perfect size for measuring out pancake batter, serving soups and stews, etc. and that’s pretty much what I use it for.
