Makes wallpaper removal easier.
Works great! Produces a steady stream of steam. Depending on the melting point of the glue it can take some extra time to remove some wallpaper.

I'm so impressed with this little machine
Taking down border with this steamer is a piece of cake. I am able to do large rooms in an hour or less. That's unheard of using other methods. The only thing that takes a bit of time is waiting for a full reservoir to heat up. The steam seems most effective at about half-full or less, I'm guessing because more steam can build up in the reservoir.Rather than wait for the steam to penetrate all layers, I like to go over it once very quickly just to release the printed vinyl layer from the adhesive, then peel that by hand in large sections. Then I go back and steam the remaining adhesive layer and use a putty knife to remove the adhesive. It's quicker than removing both layers at once. I saw other reviews mention that they have to hold the steam plate over the paper for a long time before it penetrates all layers, doing it one layer at a time means you only have to hold it over each section for 5-10 seconds, so you can steam with one hand, slide the plate over, and scrape with the other, moving right along without stopping. In one room the previous owner had pulled off the printed vinyl layer, painted over the adhesive paper layer, and then put up new wall paper on top. Even with multiple layers, it all came off very easily.Word of caution, don't hold the steamer in one place too long, it tends to soften the paint underneath as well as at the ceiling, and scraping can cause paint to come off, too.I'm really impressed with this little machine, and glad that I didn't buy a more expensive model because this did everything I needed it to do, saved me a ton of time and mess vs. using wallpaper stripper.

It works!
Pros: It works! After 20 plus years of being subject to sunlight, kitchen heat... our wallpaper was firmly glued to the wall. We tried the tried and true method of score, spray, pray, and strip but that was a nightmare amount of work. I then tried to use the floor steamer. That helped but the reservoir of water in the floor steamer ran out every few minutes. That's when I ordered the Wagner Steamer. The long hose goes from floor to ceiling so you can be on a step ladder while steaming the upper portion of your walls. It took us a while to figure out how long to steam any one area without soaking the wall board but once we did, we were able to avoid gouging the damp soft wall board. We tried it with and without scoring the paper before steaming and stripping. Scoring did not make that much of a difference.Cons: It seemed to take forever (20 + minutes) for the steam to start coming out of the hose and once it did, there was a sizable pool of water that preceded the steam; keep a towel ready to mop up the spillage. Fortunately, we have tiled floors. The steamer did a great job of removing the vinyl top layer, but the paper backing stayed put, with or without scoring. I'm thinking this had something to do with how long the paper had been on the walls. This required going back over the paper with either the steamer or a wet sponge. The paper then peeled off in large sheets. I did not consider this a big deal as there were two of us working together scoring, steaming, stripping, and cleaning up.Overall, I would recommend this steamer all day long to anyone faced with removing wallpaper. The price is fair and, I compared it to renting a wallpaper steamer. A one day rental was approximately $20.00. Our home has many wall papered rooms so we would need it for several days.

Science 101: confined steam makes water so get over it Whiners
News Flash: For all the people leaving one and two star ratings for this wonderful machine, you are suffering from inexperience and you don't know diddly about wallpaper. Wallpaper hanging and removal is hard work and it's messy no matter the method of removal. It's the nature of the beast. This Wagner wallpaper steamer is the absolute best way to remove wall paper. Less messy than any spray on goop. Yes, some water does run down the wall because it's a STEAMER and steam confined in a closed paddle makes water. Science 101 folks. Throw down a towel and keep it moving. The secret is to start at a corner and keep the paddle moving, gently pulling on the corner of the wallpaper as you go. Beautiful and easy. And for you one star folks that claim this machine ruined your walls, another news flash: You ruined your walls by leaving the steam paddle in one place for too long. Read the directions next time. And on a final note, the small amount of water that does run down the wallpaper actually helps with the removal. This is an excellent device if you use it correctly. 5 Stars.

Best tool I've bought in a long time!
Wallpaper steamers are basically a tea kettle with a hose and a couple of flat plates that trap the steam against the wall. But this simple concept works! I suggest buying this simple inexpensive tool, but I also suggest buying this simple inexpensive tool through Amazon. I looked at this same product at Lowe's and all the steamers looked like they were used and returned.Wallpaper removal is still going to be a headache job, And you are essentially trying to make the room 212 degrees. So allow for lots of time and towels on a cool day.Avoid the chemicals and expensive tools and do not ever score the paper. It's not needed and you will have gouged sheetrock if you use a scoring tool. I found that my fingernail was the best way to get an edge going to remove a large strip of wallpaper. The wall will be wet, so 5 in 1 tools or putty knives are too prone to gouging the sheetrock.Wallpaper has the pattern layer and the glued layer. The glued layer tends to become one with the sheetrock paper and the best way to get the glued layer to separate from unprimed sheetrock is steam. For someone who was panicking how to get the freaking wallpaper off the freaking wall, this steamer was making me feel genius.

The speed at which it removes the wallpaper depends on the paper and how much glue as used. Also if the wall was primed before the paper went up. Using the large nozzle the paper came off for me in a 6 foot section of wall in around 20 minutes. The biggest problem I had was the glue that was still on the wall. Not sure if I should use the steam to help remove it. The time consuming part of that was rinsing out the towel that gets saturated with the glue. The temp of the steam of course is 212 degrees - won't go higher unless it is under pressure. The speed probably is partially dependent on the amount of steam delivered to the wall but more dependent on how fast the steam penetrates the wallpaper to get to the glue to soften it. Using this compared to with just a wallpaper remover liquid was amazing. Would never go back and not use this."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Has anyone tired it on wallpaper that has been painted over? Wallpaper back then was flour paste based and paper and of course lead paint. I tried the scoring and it didn't help me. What worked best in my situation was a combination of a 6-8 inch wide metal sheetrocker mud trowel and a little 2\" flexible Red Devil putty knife. The wide trowel could really get going and take off big chunks and the putty knife could loosen the edges enough to get the big trowel underneath and get into the smaller areas and corners. Also used steamer to take up whatever goo was used to put down lineoleum flooring back then.
