Gimborn R-7 Dog and Cat Ear Care Kit

Our cat as of this review is a little under a year old and accumulates a lot of ear wax buildup in just a week. He is not an outdoor cat but we use the ear-mite treatment anyway for insurance. The cleaning solution is very effective and especially gentile. Once a week I hold the cat while my wife uses cotton balls to get the major surface gunk out and then q-tips to carefully remove the harder to reach sensitive areas. As cats inner ears tend to be maze like, the solution penetrates well and lifts the buildup in one move; we never had to do this process twice like with another product. After a thorough cleaning we apply the ear mite solution to each ear and let him get a good head shake when I let him go. The smell is a bit harsh and we do this near an open window, but after a few minutes he looks and feels good, no longer struggling to itch his ears.We follow the directions as best we can, but for all good this ear care kit can do, others we have tried have smelled better, but failed to get the job done. This stuff works relatively safely and efficiently. The directions do say do NOT breath/inhale the solutions, but unless you are a professional with face mask or even outdoors, smelling some is inevitable. I would not stress the relevance of the smell to humans too much, because the alcohol evaporates fast enough that the few minutes of smell is outweighed by the weeks of clean ears our cat has. This ear kit saves us a lot in professional yearly cleaning and for the price, does the job the best.

First off, the cleaner portion IS ALCOHOL based, which appears to cause discomfort in my kitten. The insecticide (pyrethins) portion is the same as other over-the-counter remedies, and works with repeated application. The key is following a strict regiment as per the instructions, and cleaning the ear canals regularly until no black gunk is left. However we ended up switching to another cleaner, since the alcohol-based cleaner seems to cause quite a bit of discomfort/pain.

This works for both cats and dogs and does the trick. I recommend it highly if your dog or cat has black yucky stuff in his/her ears he or she probably does have ear mites. This is also less expensive and bigger size than you get in the feed store or pet store.

I followed the instructions to the T. My cats were VERY apprehensive about having liquid put into their ears, but after the first few applications, they learned to sit and take it. I noticed a decrease in mites in my female cat. In the male cat (the original carrier of the mites) one of his ears began oozing, and when he would shake his head clumps of ear mites would fly out. This made me assume it was work. I would simply take a warm, damp towel and wipe the ear clean. However, I also noticed a horrid smell coming from the oozing ear. Bleh!I would have kept using the drops if it weren't for my cat's odd behavior after receiving the drops. They become a lot more lovey and affectionate, but stopped eating. Dry food is now out of the question. After a while I tried mixing new food with their old food (thinking it was an issue with the food and not the drops). That didn't work so I cleaned their food, water and dining mat with soap and hot water. I then bought a new brand of food. They could care less. I now have to give them wet food, but even the male cat is uninterested in that. I am worried, and am certain the drops have caused their change in appetite. I now have to take them to vet and see what is wrong. I would not recommend this product.

Cleared up a case of ear mites in just a couple days in two of our cats. The other bottle is good for keeping the ears clean. Great product and works as described. Would buy again.

This has helped my cats, and when the winter is over and I can give them baths, it will be even better!

It does the job but the smells is overpowering. It did not help one cat with chronically dirty ears so had to go to vet with her for another kind. Keep this on hand for any kind of maintenance on my animals though. Just have it set up before you catch your animals because the smell will make them run for the hills!
