Machinery's Handbook 28th Edition: Toolbox Edition Hardcover – 3 Mar. 2008

As a professional mechanical designer, I have found this handbook very reliable reference. Anybody involved in professional mechanical engineering should have this or have access to it in order to avoid misunderstandings.

Bought this 10 years ago, this is a must have text for engineers.

This is an excellent reference book. I own an electroplating company and I had a machine shop owner call me one day telling me about how I should plate his parts. I was flabbergasted at how knowledgeable he was about another industry so I asked him how he knew about by business and he told me of this book. It has sat on my desk ever since and is constantly used for reference from tolerances, threading, and many other technical questions that are not easy to find on Google. The index is excellent and no doubt a result of twenty eight editions being published. There are times that I am on the phone with a customer, I seriously doubt that I will find what I am looking for in the index and wallah it is right there. Amazing!

I have a dog-eared and tattered copy of the 22nd edition Machinery's Handbook that has served me very well over the years. I received this new copy as a gift and was immediately very impressed, all the old info that I use for reference is still there, plus a couple new chapters! I thought it would be impossible to cram any more information into this book, but somehow the guys at Industrial Press did it :) The DVD copy is not really an eBook, its a client/viewer program that allows you to view (but not download!) individual chapters or pages from the secure server in Industrial Press's basement. I've used it mostly for including reference material in email discussions with clients or co-workers.The price may seem steep, but this book is worth every penny. It will pay for itself many times over! I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone who works with their hands.

PROS:Anyone with half a mechanical interest needs this book. Open it to any random page for hours of good reading material. Orings, gears, threads, metals, materials, everything you love is detailed in this book.CONS:The pages are thin, the print is small, and there often aren't illustrations where there should be. More illustrations would be nice.OTHER THOUGHTS:This is such a good book that I wish I had spent the extra money and gotten the larger print version. My eyes are fine (I'm 25), but after the several hours of reading that I often get into with this book, larger print would have been well worth it.

A must have for any machinist, designer, or engineer. Simply the best.
