Chinese Flute Solos: 15 Traditional and Contemporary Pieces With a CD of Performances

Western flute arrangements/transcriptions of dizi pieces with performances on CD of both!
As mentioned in the book description, the pieces included here are arrangements/transcriptions of dizi pieces for the Western flute. For example, the range of the dizi does not match up with the range of the flute (try the 4 leger line high G's on dizi). One must transpose the music included to perform them on dizi, but this is not what the book was intended for; rather, I purchased it in my search for dizi pieces). The CD includes Western flute performances followed by dizi perfomances of the same piece in almost all cases, which I think is ideal. It's great to have the recordings of the pieces to follow along with the music (13 of the 15 pieces are performed on the 22-track CD). As notated, they can be a challenge (tons of grace notes). My favorite pieces for dizi, Gu Su Xing and Zi Zhu Diao, are included and just these have made the price of the book + CD well worth it.

More like a CD plus transcription
As sheet music goes this is very annoying to read and barely playable... WAY too many grace notes!! While the accompanied CD does indeed showcase that those grace notes can be used for good effect, it’s better done as improv - dictating grace notes excessively takes away all the spontaneity and artistry, and distracts from the main melody line. While a good effort, this material should perhaps be characterized as a demonstration CD of dizi music style performed in both western flute and original dizi, plus transcription to document it. It’s also a shame that although the text is written in 3 languages (English/French/German), Chinese (the source language) is entirely missing, and not even noted in parentheses where phonetically translated names make little sense.

Chinese Flute Solos
Chinese Flute Solos: 15 Traditional and Contemporary Pieces With a CD of Performances It's great that there's a book of Chinese flute music. These range from easier to more difficult and the book has a CD that has each piece played first by a western transverse flute, then by a Dizi--the Chinese transverse flute that has an extra membrane-covered hole that lends a soft buzz to the notes. The dizi solos are somewhat more complex, with more ornamentation than attempted by the western flute. The pieces are beautiful either way.I have a bass dizi in the key of G and was glad to find some suitable music for it.

Nice book in 3 Languages
I can't play anything in it yet, and have not listened to the CD yet, but the book is nice and came as promised. The introduction is helpful. I hope to be able to play at least 1 song from this with time, patience, practice and learning.

Good intro to Chinese tunes
Very good. Great for western flutes. Some tunes go into low register not achieveable with most dizi.

WASTE OF MONEY
Horrible sounds like a high school kid in basic music class recorded it. Ican't believe this person gets away with selling it! What a RIPOFF !!

Hear the unique buzzy dizi tone. Zzzzzipy.
Already loved an earlier publication without the CD, hearing dizi and flute versions of each piece is inspiring and helpful.

Está bien, pero esperaba más
He escuchado solos de música china para flauta preciosos, y esperaba que varios tuvieran contenidos en este libro. La selección hecha aquí no es la mejor, aunque está bien como interés.
