I am glad to have this tool!
The shock absorber is great. The tool is sturdy and works well. I'm glad to have gotten it.Sole issue: I'm only 5'10" and I'm too tall to easily SCRAPE ice. It does scrape quite well, but but I have to bend too much for my ( and my back's ) comfort.

Awesome!
I really liked the shock absorbing feature of this device! It’s a bit on the heavy side but at least it won’t snap after a few uses. The blade is thick, not flimsy at all. I got the opportunity to use it to break the thick ice off our exterior stairs and it was a breeze! I would heartily recommend purchasing this if you contend with serious ice buildup during the winter seasons!

Easy to chop, easy on your hands and arms
Works like a butter knife through ice without doing a number on your arms -- good shock absorbing on your hands. Very sturdy!

Poor Design
The unit is well built with a really thick blade that is solidly welded to the handle. However, the shock absorbing feature is not practical. The spring inside the handle absorbs the force that should be delivered to the ice you are trying to break. This defeats the purpose of the unit. In Wisconsin the winters are brutal and the ice gets thick at times. You need to be able to deliver a hard blow to break through the ice. This product delivers a softer blow which requires numerous blows to accomplish the task. I recommend against this unit if you are faced with thick ice. It may work for thin ice???

Heavy, sturdy tool that chips ice using gravity
Great tool that works well by lifting and dropping. Broke up the ice at the door of my shed where the snows drops down from the roof when melting or sliding off.The shock absorbing was much less jarring than a straight up steel bar, so much less pain/better experience.I've only used it twice so far, but good both times.

Works great
I just got the ice chopper and l tried it out on some stubborn ice on my back walkway. It worked great. Even in areas where the ice was too thick to completely break up, I was able to break off enough chips to make it less slippery. I am over 60 and not super strong, so if it works for me it will work for anyone.
