Korean Grammar for International Learners

There are other complete grammars of Korean available, and all have their merits. Also, you only need one of them. I'm crazy about Korean, so I've bought all of the ones still in print. What I like about this one is that there is less explanation but more example sentences, and the example sentences strike me as a bit longer on average than the ones found in some other Korean grammars. Why are these good points? Because the purpose of studying this kind of book is to learn effectively "the whole language" and the more sentences, and the longer they are, the more words you are learning and the more ways to express yourself. This text has the added bonus of being based mainly on the official standard Korean Grammar text in South Korea. This means that we're getting the real deal here. In any case, I like the wide variety of vocabulary used in the example sentences making the book an excellent way to expand vocabulary to what I'd call the "everyday fluency" level. This is not beginner's level stuff but rather the kind of Korean that is used at the level of completely normal, fluent conversation, and includes enough newsworthy vocabulary to make it possible to take part in some political and economic discussions even. Honestly, Korean is extremely difficult for us Westerners to learn due to its incredibly rich variety of expression and its very minimal familial relationship to English (there is indeed a relationship though which has been proven recently through linguistic analysis. Both our languages are related as "Eurasiatic" and share common traits including some vocabulary at a basic level.) In any case, I couldn't not post my enormous satisfaction with this volume. I do hope that you buy it. You will get an awful lot out of it and your Korean will improve a great deal! Again, I think its strong point besides its excellent exposition of grammar is its long and varied example sentences which teach a lot of vocabulary and situationally relevant dialogue.

This book was used in one of my intense Korean classes. I had been looking for a good Korean grammar book (as anyone who has studied Korean knows that the grammar can be a bit ridiculous and one tiny phrase can change the ENTIRE meaning of a sentence), and I was thrilled when I found this one. There is an index of expressions for easy location if you're looking for something specific, and enough examples listed to make it fairly easy to understand. Unlike some language books that are...well, obviously not written by native English speakers, this book uses proper English to express the concepts. It's great, and a must-have for any (I'd say intermediate) Korean learner that's looking for a grammar book. Warning: this does not have romanization, so if you can't read Hangul, then this may not be for you--try it when you get to the point where you can easily read Korean. I personally can't stand romanization because I find it impossible to read, so this works out well for me!

Excellent resource book for serious Korean Language learners. Not necessarily a beginners book, but excellent for when you get a little more experienced. Many grammar items are explained with several sentence examples. Index in the back to look-up specific items. Will add clarity to your learning.Price was good and delivery was fine.

This is by far the best korean grammar i have seen since i began studying korean. It has plenty of examples to show the ways in which each grammar rules and endings can be used. It also explains them without using highly technical language and is therefore easy to understand. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how to speak the korean language.

This is a very good and informative book.

I gave it a four because I think it's terrific but I don't know the difference. As a beginner, I find it very useful. I purchased a used book and it is very clean inside.

The book was like described. It has marks of use but so far nothing too bad. Came here in good time.
