BOG DeathGrip Hunting Tripod, 7"-59", Lightweight, Gun Clamp, Shooting Rest

I used the BOG DeathGrip Hunting Tripod throughout an entire season while deer and coyote hunting in Nebraska. It saw use from ground blinds, field edges, and open prairie where shots could range from under 50 yards to well beyond 200 yards. After several months of use in varying weather conditions, it has become one of the first pieces of gear I pack for any hunt where I expect to sit and glass or make longer shots. The standout feature is the DeathGrip gun clamp. Once the rifle is secured, both hands are free for glassing, calling, ranging, or simply waiting on an animal without having to constantly support the firearm. During coyote stands, this was especially valuable because it allowed me to stay ready while still operating an electronic caller or scanning with binoculars. The tripod adjusts quickly from a low seated position to standing height, making it useful in a variety of hunting situations. I primarily hunted from a seated position, but I also used it standing along field edges with no issues. The leg locks were easy to operate, and the tripod remained stable on uneven terrain, frozen ground, and crop fields. Accuracy is where the DeathGrip really shines. The solid clamp virtually eliminates the small movements that often occur when shooting off shooting sticks. During sight-in sessions and field practice, groups were noticeably more consistent than when using traditional bipods or crossed sticks. In the field, that stability translated into greater confidence on longer shots. The build quality impressed me throughout the season. Despite being carried in and out of numerous stands, tossed in the truck, and exposed to mud, snow, and dust, everything continued to operate smoothly. The controls remained tight, and I never experienced unwanted movement or slipping while a rifle was clamped in place. The only drawback is weight. It is not the lightest tripod on the market, and hunters covering several miles each day will certainly notice it. However, the additional weight comes with exceptional stability. For hunters who primarily walk short distances from the vehicle, hunt from blinds, or set up calling stands, I believe the tradeoff is well worth it. Overall, I would highly recommend the BOG DeathGrip Hunting Tripod to deer, predator, and varmint hunters looking for a stable shooting platform. It provides outstanding stability, excellent versatility, and durable construction that holds up to real hunting conditions. While it may be heavier than minimalist shooting sticks, the increased accuracy and confidence it provides more than justify carrying the extra weight. It has earned a permanent place in my hunting setup and will continue to accompany me on future deer and coyote hunts.

I have used shooting sticks, bag rests, and bipods. I wanted a versatile platform to use for any position: prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing. This carbon fiber version is stiffer and lighter (by a pound) than the aluminum version, weighing in at 8.5 pounds. It is still too heavy to lug around for hunting unless you have a ground blind. Definitely way too heavy to carry in the mountains of Appalachia. The footing has rubber feet and spikes. Practically speaking, the spikes will be what you use the most, unless you're shooting indoors. The legs are thick. There are two joints which have very secure clamps. One leg has a foam wrap for carrying or for stability when shooting. I like that there are only two legs that adjust since many multisegmented legs get thinner and thinner, decreasing stability. These legs are stout. There is a level on the top of the tripod housing to ensure proper alignment.. The clamps are heavy, too, and do not make a lot of noise. The angle is adjustable with a 3 setting bar. It locks securely into place. There is a number setting to indicate your angle. The tripod operates on a swivel. It can be tightened but not tightened enough to prevent rotation. The swivel moves smoothly and adjustments are useful for a firm rotation, if necessary. The mounting of the rifle (bolt action or AR) uses a clamp design with rubber edges to prevent damage to your firearm. The tension is adjusted with a large knob. It is very secure and does not require a rail attachment; therefore, it is also useful for a crossbow. It has fitted my rifles very easily with the exception of my IWI Tavor SAR, since most of the weight is rear of the rifle. It can still hold the Tavor, but the up and down cant is not strong enough for the weight of the Tavor. The cant is adjustable up and down, and the tension is controlled by a large knob. The only limitation of this system is that you cannot angle the rifle, like you can with with conventional ball mount systems. It does not have an adjustable neck to raise the head, like a conventional camera tripod, either, but that would be less stable, in general. Lastly, the weight makes it limited for more stationary endeavors. Overall, this is very solid and stable.

I like the company and I like the product everything I received and wanted in the tripod I liked the grip was good the sturdiness of the tripod and the level on it was incredible to tell me if my tripod was even or level and the size definitely fit and held my AR10 308 and my Henry 45-70 and the way I could use the adjustment capability my tripod for and turn it 360 and adjust the legs in what angle, Definitely easy to use. I think I might buy me another one in a different color. I would definitely recommend this for the right price.

I have had this BOG Deathgrip tripod now for 3 years and it still looks and works well as when I first received it. I use it with my AirForce Texan .457 PCP Air Rifle and my Weatherby .257 Magnum and my Sharps Q Down Under 45/70. The 45/70 is BRUTAL on recoil but the BOG Deathgrip can and does continually handle it. It is great for varmit shooting as well as general hunting. I have the aluminum one and no complaints at all as it works as described. The legs can be individually adjusted for slopped terrain. Be it dirt, rock etc it adjusts for your position. It does hold a DEATHGRIP on the rifles. Believe me if it can handle the 45/70 Sharps rifle it can handle most rifles. A 416 Rigby may be overdoing it 😵‍💫. It is GREAT for my AirForce Texan LSS .457 and AirForce Condor SS .25 rifles. Can also be used for sighting in the rifles with LED sighting device as it is a very steady platform. And when done it easily collapses and back into its storage bag with straps that make it easy to hike with the shoulder strap. I have bought a few tripods that got busted up hunting in the Pintlar mountains in Montana. The BOG Deathgrip has been used hunting big horn sheep outside Anaconda MT as well as Elk, deer, coyotes, and ground squirrels in the off season. It still works great. Nice tripod! This is heavy enough that I wouldn’t want to ruck it in the mountains all day, but I like how sturdy it is. For static positions it’s great, and the weight helps with recoil management for followup shots or multiple targets. Adjustment is great, clamp holds my rifles securely. Others have talked about two issues. Number one is the lack of a ball head because it’s “hard to level the rifle.” This is sort of true, but it really depends on how much you expect to be panning the rifle. If you use the bull’s-eye level on the leg bracket, and take a little bit of time to level the gun, you should be level throughout a wide panning angle. If you put a ball head on this thing and the leg bracket is not parallel to the ground, when you panned, you’re going to be out of level anyway. For me, this is not really a huge issue. The second issue that a lot of people have, which I think is significant, is the amount of play in elevation even when the elevation swivel is locked. Mine had about 3° of slop in it, which is massive in terms of the effect on accuracy. I tracked this down to the interface between the plastic saddle and metal pivot inserts. There’s just enough play here that no matter how hard you lock it, it will wiggle up and down. To fix this, I used JB Weld (hey, it’s good for something!) to epoxy the pivot inserts in place, filling the tiny gaps between the metal and the plastic. It is now rock solid. To disassemble it, you have to pop the cap off the pivot lock and take off the nut. Don’t attempt this if you are not handy. Some people mention the horizontal swivel bearings being rough. As other reviews have stated, you can mitigate this by adjusting the 5mm cap screw on the bottom of the swivel. However, any apparent roughness when you’re turning the clamp by hand usually goes away when you have a rifle in place…so make any adjustments with your rifle clamped in! Otherwise you’ll make it too sloppy.

I’ve used this on a few hunts and shooting sessions now, and I absolutely love it. It’s incredibly stable and gives you a solid platform, which makes a big difference when you’re trying to stay steady in the field. The DeathGrip system really shines—it locks your firearm in securely and frees up your hands, which is huge when you’re glassing, waiting, or adjusting position. Once it’s set, it doesn’t move, and that confidence is hard to beat. Build quality is excellent. It feels tough and durable, like it’s made to handle real hunting conditions without any issues. The only downside is the weight. It’s definitely on the heavier side, so you’ll notice it if you’re covering a lot of ground. But that weight also adds to the stability, so it’s kind of a trade-off. Overall, super reliable and performs exactly how you want. If you don’t mind a little extra weight, this thing is awesome.

This is a great tripod for under $160. I used this tripod for a week hunting deer from a ground blind and had zero issues. it is so solid that i had complete confidence in making a 200 yard shot. It has 25 degrees of up and down tilt and can rotate 360 degrees. The legs adjust easily and lock solidly in place. The top clamp will hold your rifle firmly and still allow you to rotate the rifle and tilt it up and down while it's clamped in place. It has a max height of 5'8" and can be adjusted low enough for sitting and prone shooting. Bog tripods range greatly in price with the carbon fiber model costing over $350. The basic black aluminum tripod has all of the same features as the CF model and only weighs one pound more. Don't waste your money on a more expensive model. I highly recommend this tripod And would buy it again.

Amazing tripod, very well built

I love this tripod! I have a few other tripods that came with spotting scopes and other 'heavy duty' models but they always felt flimsy. This one finally seems rock solid, stable and well made. You can feel the quality in the knobs and legs, and it's actually pretty light for such a large tripod.

This is the very best rifle tripod ever. Ok it’s not light but it is solid as a rock and a delight to use. Would highly recommend. Fast delivery from the USA too.
