Gods of Egypt is a Highly Entertaining Romp and Fun for the Whole Family! 5 stars
I was excited when I saw the previews for this movie on television--that is, until I read all of the negative reviews. The criticism of many 'professional' reviewers was enough to convince me to forget about Gods of Egypt when it was out in movie theaters. Several months later, I stumbled upon this title on Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised to see that a vast majority of 'Amazonian' reviewers really enjoyed this movie. How could this be since it was almost universally condemned by Hollywood critics??? I decided to rent 'Gods of Egypt' for an evening based solely on the customer reviews and form my OWN opinion. It was money well spent. I am happy to relate to any potential viewers that Gods of Egypt truly exceeded my expectations at several levels. I don't normally review movies, but I also felt compelled to review THIS movie because I believe its ultimate success at the box office was 'torpedoed' by jaded and cynical Hollywood critics with their own agenda. Contrary to several other reviewers, I believe this movie had ample diversity----but apparently not enough for the 'too many white people' crowd. In Hollywood ethnic inclusivity and diversity seems to be the ONLY thing that matters in these times--nevermind the quality of the storytelling or the caliber of actors. At the end of the movie does it really matter if Nicolaj Coster Waldau (Horus) is white, black, red, or yellow so long as he was a superb representation of Horus? The actors all did a tremendous job in their respective roles, though I confess it was difficult at times for me to accept that Gerard Butler was the bad guy in this film(even though he was brilliant in this role). For me, Gerard Butler will always be King Leonidas from the movie, '300.' First let me say that this is a rare example of an exotic mythology-based movie that is fun for the entire family--ages 10 and up. Anyone familiar with the lore of the Egyptian Gods would understandably approach this movie with some trepidation since sexuality in Ancient Egypt was very open and untainted by guilt (unlike the modern Judeo-Christian-Muslim traditions). Thankfully, in Gods of Egypt we have a terrific, heartwarming, and kid-friendly story that wastes no time convincing you that once upon a time there was a glorious Egypt in which Gods lived among mortals in near-utopian harmony. These were flawed Gods, of course, being taller in stature than their human subjects and apparently more susceptible to the vices affecting mortals than mortals themselves. The stunning visual imagery in this film was majestic and the CGI effects were impressive to say the very least. The lush, beautiful, and fertile Nile basin created in this Alex Projas enterprise was truly a feast for the senses. One of the strengths of this movie is that the impressive cinematography in no way detracted from the character development or the story itself. This is definitely a feel-good movie with a happy ending--sorry if this is a spoiler of sorts for anyone reading this review! There are many moments of suspense, many moments of laughter, and several moments when tears would be appropriate. This is a very well-rounded film in that I think it possesses something for everyone...........Several moral lessons are learned by the chief protagonist Horus throughout the course of the film: 1).It is always a leaders duty to serve the people nobly and not the people's duty to serve their leader humbly. 2).TRUE power resides within us all, waiting to bubble to the surface when we need it the most. 3). Pursuing justice is a noble endeavor whereas pursuing vengeance is a fruitless endeavor. Those are my takeaways from this surprisingly enjoyable film. When this movie ended, I was hoping it would continue and for me this is the hallmark of a GOOD movie. Dont listen to or believe the critics! Watch this movie for yourself and decide whether it is a worthwhile investment of your time.

HOW TO WRITE THIS REVIEW!!? SUPER VID, that's a fact!
I will TRY to review this great movie, but whatever I describe, pales in comparison to what I saw on this vid. Because most of it is a "have to see". And there isn't much to spoil, because I could write a whole day and not be able to convey the awesomeness of this EPIC story...Did I say, EPIC? Oh yes, I did! I most definitely DID. This is one of those TOP-of-THE-WATCHLIST type vids! This is easily one of the best movies I've seen in the last couple of years! It's an incredible visually spectacular vid. This is quality CGI AND Production Power on a massively tremendous scale! Enough! I think your getting the idea.SHORT SUMMARY: No spoilers if I can help it: TWO BROTHERS the grandchildren of the mightiest EGYPTIAN GOD of them all, RA, The Sun God. The God that drives away the hungry evil of the darkness that tries to swallow the world every night. These special brothers were born to Immortal's. So, they are Gods as well. They can change their shape in the blink of an eye; turn into huge gold plated war machines that's indescribable. They can grow in size, and the power of their armored fist and feet sends cities crashing to the earth. Horus is to be the next King and the time to except his crown is at hand. He would make a kind, and genorous King...the children would learn in schools, everyone was important and would prosper, no one would ever hunger again, (but to be totally honest, Horus, does not have the ruthlessness; the cruelty, that is needed to be a king. His one flaw, he loves the humans that his grandfather made. There is another brother: Set. The leader of the mighty Egyptian Army. The Protector. He is fierce. He is fearless. He can not be hurt or killed, and his powers are limitless! He rides the land and protects Egypt from any, or all, whom would dare. Unlike his brother, Set has no pity when it comes to the human race. He scornes them. They're only worth, in his eyes, is as slaves. The only movies that can stand beside The Gods Of Egypt, are vids like, The Avengers, Bat man, The X Men, or Iron Man , or Thor, or Guardians Of The Galaxy. BUT, this is only a SINGLE movie. Do you think I'm a little over enthusiastic? Okay, here's what you've got: you have Waldau (Jamie Lannister) is the God, Horus. You have Butler (King Loenitis) as the God, Set. Now...does that sound like I'm "just a little over enthusiastic?" Anyway, just when Horus is to take the scepter, Set, decides that He will have the scepter for Himself. He would own Egypt, the whole world! So He betrays His brother, blinds him, then Set takes Horus' wife AS HIS OWN. Blind and defeated, Horus finds that he must trust some one. Some one He would never, EVER, had believed He would have to ask for help...He has to ask a HUMAN!? NON STOP ACTION. GREAT VID.

Can’t bash it
Gods of Egypt (2016) was critically panned, mostly due to poor acting, some CGI issues, and not hiring actors who are of Egyptian descent to accurately portray the characters of the civilization. I’ll give Alex Proyas credit for making a film about Egyptian gods; it’s something that we’re not used to seeing. On the other hand, some of the content and acting is over the top. Yes, this is a fantasy film, and we can expect a lot of eye candy and fast-moving images, but there’s not much restraint here. The film looks beautiful for the most part, so that’s definitely a plus. As for the content, first 15-20 minutes is excruciating, with campiness and actors who are strangely smiling when they really shouldn’t be. It’s almost like the actors aren’t taking their lines seriously. However, the film starts to ‘settle in’ after this, and becomes a tad more believable, though the humor and lightheartedness of the characters remain. Gods of Egypt is an uneven film that can’t fully find its identity, but I’m not going to give it a negative review. Instead, I can respect Proyas’ boldness for taking on such a project, and his visual style is still solid after all these years. This film had a lot of potential, but it was unfortunately offset by some poor decisions. I can’t complain about the low price ($3.99) for the blu ray, and the special features are nice.

Impresionante
