Great quality and great game
I owned the original version of this game and got the collector's edition for my wife. The components are top notch, but I wouldn't expect anything else for the price!! This is going to be an heirloom game. One that I pass down to my son and hopefully he passes down to his son. Its cutesy enough for kids to enjoy it but game enough for adults to love it also. This is however a light game. Don't expect to get deep strategy. This version isn't for everyone. Its for those who love this game.

Buy it now! Bigger is better.
High quality! It came with the original artwork and the new version of cards. The dice that came with it is huge and it's starting to chip but that's partially because we played on a hard serface. I recommend playing on a gaming table. The bamboo chipped in some places too. Again. Felt would have saved those pieces. The plastic cover on the box was ripped which was upsetting because you pay so much you would expect everything to be perfect. Other then that it was exactly what I wanted.

My kids love this game and it's a family favorite
This was a present to me for Xmas by my wife. I would NEVER have spent this much money on a board game. My kids love this game and it's a family favorite. The kids love the biggness of this. For the money they really could have spent a little more on some of the components. The only "real" upgrade is the farmer, panda, and bamboo. The rest is just bigger versions of cheap stock. Bigger cards, bigger tiles, etc.The game wood container is nice enough to leave out as decor in our living room. It looks like a wooden wine case.

Amazing Edition
Takenoko is a really fun game, but what could make it even more fun is if it were so large, you could play it on your floor. Well, the collector's edition makes this possible! The construction is sturdy and quite heavy. It's a bit ridiculous how super-sized everything is compared to the regular version. Unfortunately, this also means a super-sized price in comparison. However, there are only 400 (supposedly) of these games in the United States, so it could be worth picking up if you're worried about it selling out. Please note that in my attached image that the panda holding the umbrella doesn't come with the set. We bought him on eBay as a trophy for the winner of each game. Whoever wins gets to display the umbrella panda on their desk.If you're a huge fan of Takenoko, don't hesitate to pick this version up before it's gone.

Just about perfect-dumb of them to lose a star
My review will not cover the game, just the item. This is the collectors edition of the game, so I assume if you are buying it, you already know the game. The overall scope of this is AWESOME. Having the giant pieces is really something, and while it doesn't add any mechanics to the game, it is really something to see. The large figures are well painted and the bamboo was all very well done. Tile quality is to be excellent, no warping or discoloration and the overall print quality is great. For your information, if you are like me and wondering why ti doesn't seem like you have enough bamboo or you have too many stock bottoms and not enough stocks, don't fret. This is part of the game design. It will make sense when/if you buy it :-)The box is awesome as well. It is hard wood (plywood) and the lid fits wonderfully on the top of the box. Also, the plastic covering on the box, the one you can see form the image, is pretty cool. The only negatives I have are this-the robber inserts in the box (amazing by the way) are just OK on build quality. One of the ones we got had the base falling off. A little glue fixed it right up, but it was pretty unnecessary. Also, one of the action markers had some of the paint wearing off. It's not a huge deal and can be fixed by a little paint, but I see it EVERY time I look at it.Do these merit a start loss? On the regular print edition of this game I would say no. On the COLLECTOR'S EDITION, absolutely.I still think that overall the set is fantastic and a wonderful gift for someone who likes the game or yourself if you are so inclined.

Neat Collector's Edition, but beware of Shipping and Components damage!
After watching videos and reading positive reviews of the Collector's Edition (CE) version of Takenoko, I was excited to place my order for this version of the game. Since the gameplay of this CE is the same as the regular version, I'll just be posting my thoughts on Components Quality, Shipping, and Overall Value:Components Quality: All the pieces from the CE (except the round wooden action tokens), are larger than the regular edition and they are HUGE! The bamboo pieces from the original game were small, wimpy things that were about 1" tall. The Bamboo pieces in the CE version are as big (if not bigger) as your thumb! The figures look great, have a solid weight, and they can be held in the palm of your hand - The CE Panda absolutely dwarfs the panda figurine from the original game which is a small, key-chain sized figure. All of the parts have a great feel to them and it's really neat when you start stacking these big bamboo pieces. One thing I appreciate with the CE Panda and Gardener figures is that they have more detail and better paintwork on them than the original pieces (The Panda actually has an airbrushed shade around his belly) and they can totally be used as display pieces. One caveat with the larger figures however, is that mold lines stand out much more than their smaller counterparts. BUT...as cool as the pieces are, I do need to mention Quality Control. I had several defects with some of my parts: The Panda had a black paint smudge on his cheek; The Gardener had scrapes on one side his face; the wooden die had dings and scratches; the paint for the symbols on 2 of the wooden action tokens weren't properly applied and look faded; and 4 of my tile pieces had clipped/dented edges. Since all the parts are separated and encased in foam-like material, these issues suggest that they are manufacturer's defects.Shipping: My CE was fulfilled and shipped by Amazon. Most of my orders from Amazon come in great shape and some orders are packaged very well. However, this was not the case for this game: The game was shipped in an oversized box with only a little packing paper to "protect" it during shipping. I don't know why they didn't pack something as heavy and expensive like this with air cushions, but because of the poor packing, my game came damaged as there were not only some deep scratches on the sleeve and wooden box, but also a noticeable deep ding as well. Amazon was able to help me out with this, but it was still disappointing to get my CE in this shape..Value: While it certainly is a cool version of the game, it's hard for me to recommend it at the $300 price tag especially when my game came with quality control and shipping issues. At this price-point, there should be little to none quality control issues and it's unfortunate to see them considering that the CE costs about 9x's more than the regular version and all the pieces are just larger-scaled versions of their smaller counterparts. Overall, I think this is a good deal if you can get it for around or less than $200, but if you're a huge fan of Takenoko and you're willing to pay full price for the game, be aware that your game may very well come in less-than-great condition.

Absolutely stunning!
Stunning quality and although expensive, worth every penny! The wooden box is beautiful in itself, the components are packed in foam inserts and everything is a joy to behold...particularly the panda and gardener figures which are huge compared to the normal version of the game. Cannot wait to play this and will treasure it for years to come!**Edited to add - just got this out to play and discovered one of the plot tiles as stuck to the foam insert, causing ripping to the surface of the tile. Still an amazing item but having to return it so I can order a replacement. Make sure you check all components when you receive yours just in case the same thing happens.******Edited again to add - the replacement came today and also had a damaged tile (not the same one)...Definitely a manufacturing issue as the tiles seem to be sticking to the glue of the foam insert***

Love it!
It came so quick! Is exactly what I expected. Only complaint is that the gardener was missing his hat off of his back. That's kind of a bummer but doesn't take away from how amazing it is.
