Get Yer Boots On The Best OF Slade

Not just a goofy-dressing glam band
Mostly dismissed as a glam band that dressed oddly and couldn't spell, these guys were in fact accomplished writers, arrangers, and musicians. I'm sure their partnership with ex-Jimi Hendrix producer and Animals bass player Chas Chandler had a lot to do with it. It must have been a great chemistry.Even their very early stuff, like Look Wot You Dun and Coz I Luv You, showed they had a knack for writing catchy songs and creating interesting arrangements. I really like the strings and other odd sounds on Coz I Luv You, and the guitar solo in Look Wot You Dun is classic. Cum on Feel the Noize is just insanely good and has been covered by countless artists from Quiet Riot to Oasis. The later career ballads like Everyday and Far Far Away still sound great. I'm really glad they went out with a bang in '83 with Run Run Away and My Oh My. They deserved it.

Brings it all back (Feel the Noize!)
A good compilation of (some of) Slade's singles. Slade were a great band based on the fundamental notions of energy, noise, excitement and fun, and it comes through in many of the tracks, particularly the mid-1970s material. Interestingly, the lyrics are able to sketch out a story with very few words (e.g. "G'buy T' Jane"), which beats a lot of rap today.Only 4 stars because there's only an hour of music on the CD, so 20 minutes is left blank. There was certainly other excellent music that could have been included, not necessarily singles. Sometimes really good tracks are on the albums, yet still get airplay and should go on a compilation (Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down" being but one example). Perhaps it's cut back for the US market (alas). If you enjoy Rock 'n' Roll with energy and fun, you will probably like this CD a lot.

Haven't heard the CD yet before what I remember about ...
Haven't heard the CD yet before what I remember about them they remind me of MC five or any other heavy British band they laid it out for Nirvana black-eyed peas Raymon's etc. etc. etc.

Slade
This is a pretty good collection. I knew about a 1/3 of the songs already and the others are pretty good. My biggest complaint about Slade in general is the drums. They never really are mixed loud enough and plus the drummer never really rocks out and hits them hard enough. Every song would be way better if the drums had a little oomph to them. Otherwise they are a good band. The later songs like Run Runaway and My Oh My are so obviously a drum machine but then again it was the 80's and every band used them for whatever reason.

Slade rocks!
Some of my fav's: Run Runaway, Cum On Feel The Noize, Mama Weer All Crazee Now. The last two were made famous again by the band Quiet Riot in the late 1980's.
